^ I was thinking about this after his interview too. He is a smart guy and seems focused.

It must be the nerves then. Nonetheless I'll say he's growing on me. I'd be happy with him locking down his man and providing absolutely anything on offense.

He's finally buying into the formula. Threes, defense, and fast breaks. Great combination for him.

It's been something like five solid games from him. Got to respect that. Good job Wesley. Keep it up for Christ's sake, please.

Agreed. I've been satisfied with his play the last few games. He's finally starting to play within himself.

I watched it too, but I also think it may have something to do with Swaggy coming in and stealing his interview. Wes is just laid back and I got the impression of Wes just wanting to be done with the interview (get it out of the way) and with Nick coming in and talking sort of disrupted that flow.

What's going on with him lately? Taking quality open shots, getting timely steals and finishing the break off some of those steals. Taking advantage of a mismatch one late possession last night where Lowry was on him and he turned and scored over him close to the hoop. Who is this guy?

He probably hit his head. I see no other explanation.

During the Toronto game, Stu intimated that Wes is a bit of mental midget.

If things are going good for him early, he does well. If he has some sort of adversity, he needs a lot of positive encouragement from coaches and players around him.

Some mental midgets can be bad like Kwame (drunk and disorderly) and Dwight (self-centered douchebag). Wes seems like a good kid, but his mental makeup is probably not suited for the NBA. Then again, if he had a strong mental makeup, he wouldn't be on this team at the price we're paying him. His athleticism is what you find in players making MLE money or more.

He has a place in the NBA... just as the 3rd or 4th substitute.

Another nice game for Wesley...that dunk was nice, too. He's carving out a niche and performing nicely.

Yeah, this is very, very heartening to see Wes finally getting it. He's doing what we hoped he would do for us beginning last year. He was never in the right position to really do it then, and he didn't seem to possess the BBall IQ to do it in the pre-season and early season. I had just about given up hope on him, but it's great to see him turn it around. Keep it up youngster. Kobe and Byron obviously had faith in him that he'd get it. Glad to see him proving them right.

Very nice couple games... hope it's not fools gold and he can keep it up. Sure would be a diamond hidden in the coal on this club that's for sure.

Never doubted his psychical abilities so occasional good plays are bound to happen.. but he's literally having entire games of decent play of late.

    Some facts about Wes Johnson

Wes's USG% is the lowest of his career - by far. It's 11.8 vs. 16.0 career and 14.3 as the lowest other than this season.

Yet his PER is 10.9, above his career mark and only .1 off his career best (last year). And his TS% is his career best, .040 higher than his career mark (that's "4 points" higher - 53.9 vs. 49.9).

His win shares/48 are the highest of his career, at .044 vs. .029 in his career. This has meant that his Win Shares are 0.5 already, which is on pace to be a career high, and his Value Over Replacement Player is 1.4, already his career best - meaning that over the course of the season a team with Wes on it would win about 4 games more than a team playing an "average" player in his spot.

He's coming alive. This is the Wes I wanted to see when we got him last year. It's the kid I was so excited about. Play solid defense, get to the rim, hit an open three. The recipe for him is so simple, it was really disheartening to see him failing this season early on. He was taking shots off the dribble. Mid-range leaners with a defender in his face... It was ugly.

He's still got stone hands sometimes and fumbles passes out of bounds that he should really catch, that's something to work on. But the decision making has been excellent and that's not something I thought I'd ever type about Wes.

I hope he keeps this up man. His production has been key to our success lately.
