This belongs in the optimism thread. I’d love to believe this but just don’t see it. This team just doesn’t care enough for long periods of time.

Hit a 3. He's already a better shooter than 75% of the roster.

More minutes for this guy. He boxed out and showed effort. Things that we are sorely missing this year. It’s not like we are going to win games anyhow next week. Let’s see what he’s got.

There are about 18 games left, we will see all these guys after LBJ, AD, and Russ are shut down for the season

Yes he is interesting. Different. Not a guard.  Not thick. Bouncy. Fast. Nice athlete. Lots of energy. Can shoot some. I like him. :)

Him and Stan look so much better then Ariza/DAJ/Bradley/Baze/err Russ? I think all the vets outside of occasional Bradley good games and Dwight have been terrible. Kind of pathetic just having two guys who are young and have the right NBA size out of the G league make this team watchable

he's made two three point shots and is large enough to play pf and quick enough to switch a lot on defense. i'm starry-eyed.

God awful shooting performance, but the 9 boards and hustle provided a breath of fresh air.

I keep hearing guys say on Laker podcasts that you cannot get both offense and defense in 1 guy with the minimum. It’s proving to be true, with Gabriel, with Stanley, Monk, Melo, on and on and on. It’s still worthwhile to give guys like this a shot though, and he WOULD have value in the right lineups on a better team.

Definitely. I'd be interested in bringing him back as a 3rd string PF in a 12 man role. He should never be starting, even for a half. Just shows where we're at right now. But I think he'd do even better with training camp and time with Handy under his belt. Cheap and young with some useful tools.

it's an interesting question. i think reaves does both at minimum, but yes, most vet min guys who are bouncing around don't bring the full package, hence vet min.

everybody wants vet mins to be mikal bridges. mikal bridges makes 22 million per.

i prefer our one-way young guys (stan, monk) to our zero-way vets (baze, dj).

anyway, if they don't see anything in gabriel, bring in the next one. there are gems out there.

Sure, but Reaves is a rookie. Late pick rookies come in time to time and play above their draft spot, but then when the next contract comes up they no longer get the minimum. So it’s really likely Reaves isn’t a minimum player, he’s a rookie who hadn’t gotten his shot yet. I doubt he is making that in 2023 if we try to re-sign him.
