But you want the guy he's learning from to be a leader. According to Billups, Lawson is NOT your guy. http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on...says-ty-lawson-isnt-a-leader-should-be-traded
This is true, however how many true leaders are in the NBA these days? We'll have Kobe and I'd assume all eyes will be on him this year for the younger guys. My concern with both of our young guys is the LA spotlight. They both have great physical talent. Russell has got a good fundamental foundation too. What they have no clue about is the pressure of being the "Lakers" future. This franchise as never been in this position... never. The current core of the fanbase is used to having the best player in the game and being a top contender year in and year out. A lot of them don't remember or were not old enough to remember the last time we were not a contender. Even then we were in the playoffs regularly and had a good core group. None of that is the case now. Everyone want's them to start and seems to think that the road to success for them is 34 minutes a game from opening day forward. I think that is exactly what they don't need. I think it's safe to say that neither has Kobe's mental make up (few every have). He came off the bench and played quite a bit less his first 2 years in the league. His famous airballs etc. were overcome by his unending drive. Kobe had Shaq and a number of veteran's on those teams that had been playing together for a few years. These kids don't Anything that we can do to take the pressure off of them early in their career will pay off later. I'm no huge fan of Lawson however if we could get him he would be the starter here. I see that as a good thing actually. At least for a year or so.
The idea is growing on me as a short term transition thing. Also adds talent for future deals, and Kobe won't put up with crap IF HE'S AROUND.... Lawson/Russell Clarkson/Williams Kobe/? Bass/Randle Hibbert/Black/ Forgetting names of other guys. Assume we have to give up a combo of Kelly/Sacre/Young/picks Also like the idea of signing Seth Curry. If Kobe remains healthy and can adjust his approach to accelerate the development of the youngins, we can surprise some people. If this is Kobe's final season, props to front office for at least giving him something to work with and a reason to consider sticking around another year.
I've said this before, I want no part of any of the Nuggets. They're immature, childish, disrespectful, and more focused on the basketball lifestyle than basketball itself. I don't want him poisoning our young talent pool. Only way I even entertain a flyer on him is if it's for Young, Kelly, and Sacre. And the only two reasons I consider that: - Young is beyond expendable now with Lou and JB. -Russell isn't ready for the spotlight on major minutes.
Houston gave up basically the 24th overall pick next season to get Lawson. That's a steal. Good 2 year investment if he gets his head out of his a**.
One of them is the 7th seed. Ireland missed the Lakers in the top 4 with Home Court Advantage round 1 somehow.
It's a great deal if he gets his s*** together. But that's a big if and part of why so few teams were calling (even with his great numbers) and why they gave up no part of their playoff rotation. Houston is a better fit for his baggage too. the light in LA shines too bright, too many temptations. They have some vets there to babysit, don't have to worry about him rubbing off on their youth, and McHale has a better chance of keeping him down the straight and narrow than Scott does.
Meanwhile in the Easy err East, you have Cleveland and well Cleveland. Such a joke and has been for a long time.
