Defense isn't his Forte, he doesn't have the springs or lateral quickness. I think he would do OK with AD covering the paint in a zone look.
Would be nice to have a last third of the bench option in Huff out there to go as hard at it with centers like Zubac as Bryant tries to do with little effect.
With AD back, as expected he's quiet. Just 1 fg attempt in over 19 mins and 0 minutes out there with AD. Anyone still think he's worth the MLE to us? I mean if AD is injured of course, but we can't build a team counting on that.
i really don't think he's going to get full MLE offers. i'm saying same about reaves and walker, too. feel free to mark this and laugh at me later, but i think IF we want to retain all three, we would have little problem doing so.
I have to comment on this one, I know he had a good box score, but man, for me that was baaaad. He had TWO goaltending calls from what I remember like maybe 3 plays apart where a shooting foul was called and he swatted the ball at the rim for some reason. Like why? Also his defense, it doesn’t exist, he doesn’t have any. If the other team has the ball near the rim, in the paint, and he’s there’s, it’s a basket. He’s probably a decent bench energy big, but not more, there’s 2 sides to the floor, you have to at least put up SOME level of resistance.
yeah, he's a good backup c, but his archetype isn't worth the kind of money that people are expecting he'll get, imo.
I think we HAVE to. It's the only way to maximize his tenure here. History shows that he will miss games. So we just have to make sure that when he's out we don't suffer to much. Then rely that when he's healthy we are a force and make sure he's ready when it counts, post season. I don't see AD having a +60 games season ever again Yep, I think we can play hard ball on him. I would give him 5mil max, around that number.
i think he could, but it could also be a situation where as he loses his efficacy, he gets injured less. i think his injuries result from his body kind of defying physics, like zion. i feel like pau and antonio mcdyess are examples of guys who lost athleticism due to series of mid-career injuries but still returned to play bigger chunks of seasons, just at lower max capacity. iow, not superstars anymore, but still good, and more available. guessing initial offer will be BAE if there is one. tell him if he can find better on the open market to circle back and we'll see where we're at.
He had a good third, that energy was big in our run and having a go to bucket getter. It seemed Ham wanted to force feed Rui in the first half to see what he could do but went away from that in the second half and that opened up more for TB. When Russ and DS are awful on offense, we need that TB jolt. But yes, his defense was really bad. Didn't help that the guards provided zero resistance to any guard trying to get to the rim. Thought Tierre and Chucky were out there for a minute.
Teams have adjusted to him now Ham has to adjust back - using him as a Pick N Pop guy to force the other team to take their rim protector (i.e. claxton) out of the paint. Or play with with Wenyen to help with the defense issues.
Yeah, I still love Thomas Bryant's energy and easy buckets. But he REALLY needs to work on his D. Especially if he wants to get paid.
He's not going to get paid with this kind of defense, no. So, we could probably sign him relatively cheap if we want to do that. Strangely enough, TB is a good fit as a backup when AD is injured. He shines in this role, can score a lot and very efficiently. When AD comes back... things change. So, at this point, he's more of that "AD insurance" than anything else. And knowing AD, it's a good insurance to have, but it's not worth a ton of $$ even to us.
I could live with his D, if he just bodied up more, standing out there with his hands up, watching guys hit layups is a terrible look.
Bryant probably is only worth BAE money - like 4-5ish million. As a backup playing 15-20 mins he isn’t outstanding, but if AD goes down we know he can take on more of a scoring load.
amazing efficiency if you only looked at the box score for offense and rebounding, you'd think he was a great find But literally all of you guys think his D is so bad it negates with efficient offense. Sounds like he can be no better than a good backup for part time starting filler, but even that is in danger if he doesn't decide to put more effort in on D.
