Luke Walton "at his best" was valuable to the Lakers as a decent role player. Ergo..... Ryan, because he's also white and a "smart" player ..... will be valuable to the Lakers. [IMG] Especially if he can hit his 3's at a good stretch 4 clip, pass well and break for the basket to put it in or pass to an open player when they cheat on him. I expect him stronger than he's been and he has shown flashes of this kind of play.

I don't need every player to be a star. Ryan has the look of a solid player. I think he could definitely be a player who contributes to a championship run.

Maybe. He has to play the 4 though. Kelly at the 3 was an unmitigated disaster. It almost had to be a stealth tank move Scott.

He's definitely a stretch four and not a three.

More than his shooting, I like his shot blocks out of nowhere.

Kelly has hijacked the davis thread, but he's no luke Walton. and I don't even think Walton was great. at his peak, Walton was a 9th man thrust into a sixth man's role. Kelly's a 12th man, maybe in the right situation he can be a 9th man.

Solid 4 potentially with (Assuming) Okafor, Randle, Black, and Davis....with Kelly a distant 5th. Do I bring up Sacre.?

I can see losing Hill, but is it wise to lose both he and Davis? He might be the ideal small ball backup defensive center. Okafor, Randle, Black, Kelly, and Sacre cost a combined 6-7 mil? Let's not get too carried away being cheap

I hope the Lakers let him know they want him as veteran backup and will compete with other offers, but have to plug other holes first. More desperate needs/holes at other positions. We love you, but please go see what market value is for solid backup center and give us an option to match before signing?

Pssst.....we know it ain't what his glue sniffing agent is floating

I'd love Ed back, but again his agent is full of s***. I don't think there's a team in the league that'll offer even 8 million per year let alone up to 9 or 10 million...

I offer him a long-term deal to be our backup Center for the next four years. I loved his demeanor. I loved his attitude and the way he played within his abilities.

My number doesn't change though: 4/20-24. He said he might be willing to take a bargain to stay here, well put your money where your mouth is. It's not about cash, it's about fit. We've got a solid 20-25 minutes for you to build around a young group of big men that can turn into the best rotation in the NBA within a couple years.

    Randle/Black/Kelly
    Okafor/Davis/Sacre

Give 'em a few years to marinate and that rotation looks amazing.

He doesn't by chance have Gumby for a manager does he? Does that guy still have a job?

Not that we were not bringing Ron Ron in anyway. Especially after his shower with Kobe .... [IMG]

It just comes down to bad timing with us. With a probable max signing at the SF spot we have less than 10 mil to fill out the bench.

He would have gotten 8 mil if this was next year.

His agent isn't David Lee by any chance?? Won't ever forget how he tried to be cute and scary Dr. Buss & Mitch with Ariza's impending contact situation that off-season. We basically gave him the finger, wished Ariza well, and signed Artest.

Man I hope this is Ed or his agent just throwing out the highest number first with plenty of room for negotiation, and we meet in the middle. I really want Ed back, but 7-9 mil per isn't happening for a backup big. 5.5-6 per, or an MLE deal seems so much more realistic to me, and I hope it gets done.

Good for Ed. Five teams calling at midnight must be great validation for the hard work he put in last year.

I hope we can keep him around, I like him a lot. If we can't, good luck to him.

I am hoping of two things...

    1. We can't afford him because we already signed a max player.

    2. If we miss out on everyone, he is re-signed.

He deserves a payday after the type of season he had. Congrats Ed.

If we strike out on LMA (pretty likely now it seems) I hope we can re-sign him along with Harris, but I don't know if he'll still be around with the amount of interest he's getting or if we'll enough left to sign him.

Thanks for the hard work. You'll be missed. Definitely deserved a nice pay day and has plenty of opportunities with Portland. They were aggressive, we weren't.
