^^ Keep on, Ed. No need for heroics right now.

Monster game from Ed tonight. Glad he kept the mask on, especially with that hard foul on him towards the end of the game. That would have been bad news without it. But man, Ed just killed it tonight. Great work.

Should have been a flagrant. Those are the rules. You hit up around the head and shoulders, you get a flagrant. Any other team and that's a flagrant no doubt. They took a foul on purpose and used his head/neck to get there. Unacceptable.

Great game from him besides the missed free throw. Honestly he should never have been at the line. If Kobe takes the shot, nobody is there to clean up but Davis. It would have made more sense that way.

Either way, these stats don't grow on trees. I really hope we lock this dude down in the off-season. In less than 30 minutes he had 20/8 with 2 blocks. He took only 9 shots. Awesome stuff.

I don't see that as a flagrant. He crouched down low before he went for the rim and both dudes hit the ball. It happened quickly. That was a hard foul defending against a game tying shot. Nobody was playing dirty in that game. I agree wiyh Stu and think the refs got that one right. Just my opinion. But yeah love to keep Big Ed around for a while.

He has earned his stay, I just hope we don't have to overpay to keep him.

Not a flagrant foul. Prince and Allen got ball first and then fouled him.

It doesn't matter if they got ball first, a flagrant foul is a violent foul that can result in injury. That's exactly what happened. A man wearing a face mask already was hit hard in the face. By the letter of the rules, it's a flagrant foul.

^ I disagree. That's NOT what the letter of the rule says. This is what I could find in the latest rulebook posted on NBA.com:

That's pretty vague, but it's commonly accepted that if the defender is making a play on the ball, it's not flagrant. The Grizzlies shouldn't be penalized and forced to play defense any differently just because Davis decided to play with a mask.

To be fair, I didn't get a good view of the play. I was at the game, and they never showed a replay. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I tend to believe that in situations like that, the stadium WILL show the replay if its favorable to the home team to get the crowd riled up. If the replay confirms the correct call is made, they won't show it to the home crowd so that when the official confirms it, the crowd gets rowdy not realizing that it was the right call.

Except the play wasn't violent. He got hit hard by the ball that Prince knocked into his face and Tony Allen's arm trying to make a block and nothing more.

So what if he's wearing a face mask? It doesn't mean he gets babied on the court and if he gets fouled it's automatically upgraded to flagrant. Ed Davis got fouled hard, the mask has nothing to do with the call at the present time.

Good hard foul at the end of the game.

I believe it's not a flagrant if there is a clear play on the ball. It was a hard foul. Nobody was trying to injure him. Pulling someone down on their back from mid air or sliding under a guy taking a jump shot would be a flagrant. Swinging at a guy's head without a play on the ball would be a flagrant 2. Just because he's wearing a face mask and takes contact to the face doesn't automatically justify a flagrant.

Looked like a hard foul to me, too. Loving Ed's game last night. Lin brought it, too. Hill's been struggling with that shot lately. Ronnie came back to earth too.

I disagree with all of you. By the way games are refereed today, it's a flagrant foul. If I were playing myself or if I was watching the NBA 15 years ago, I'd say it's a hard foul and no big deal.

Now? You get a flagrant for much less than that. I'd have called the flagrant.

Tend to agree with you there but I think refs used appropriate judgement last night. Maybe it would've been called 7 out of 10 times the other way.

Hey I'd like for the NBA to regularly not call that a flagrant, but they've called flagrants for less and I think in today's NBA that should have been ruled a flagrant.

Detroit won it's 4th in a row; their not going to be in the top 5 in the tank standings at the end of the season...Smith is out of there, Meeks is back, Drummond and Monroe are playing well, and SVG can actually coach...WTS, that's one less team we have to worry about for those who are concerned about keeping our pick...

Hey how did the Clippers pick up circa 2000 Shaq? Oh that's DeAndre Jordan. Weird... I coulda sworn.
