When he signed for the BAE I assumed he would only be here for one year, but I wonder if he ends up sticking around. Probably comes down to what trade(s) we make in the offseason and what exceptions remain available.
TP loves all people and see the good in them even when it isn't there. Just like me. --- Darvin Ham (Probably)
He was 4 for 8 and who would you want to start with Bron, Max, Vando and Cam out tonight? Or are you suggesting the lovely 3 guard lineup that everyone loves to complain about?
And still barely cracking double digits with 11 points in starting minutes (over 30). There's diminishing returns with Prince's minutes. He's just as effective, if not more so with 20 plus minutes than he is with 30 plus. He just plays better in the bench role.
Thanks for the fix, ESPN was very late with their finals for some reason tonight. Watching him, the 2 of 6 looked right so ran with it. He turned it around to finish his minutes out to close at a 50% rate, so good on him. I still thought it was a bad game from him. Relied too much on the whistle and played outside of his comfort zone. I think his +/- is distorted based on the group who's coattail he was riding. Eye test, he was the 8th best Laker tonight. Due to injuries, not a lot to work with there. Anytime you're playing him 30+, no one benefits. Personally I would've played Dinwiddie 30 minutes (steal 2 there), Rui had the game of his life (bump 1-2 there), the backup bigs overall effort levels have been solid lately and Utah has a lot of length (gift them a couple...Wood did sign here expecting to play when Bron or AD were out). That's a really easy way to get the 33 down to 25-26 minutes. We won in a blowout so this is ultimately picking nits, but I found his recent production as a backup much stronger than what we saw for the first half of the season or in a game like tonight.
I don’t have any problem with him playing off the bench/ less minutes, I’m just not going with a 3 guard lineup with all our injuries to make that happen. His +/- was better Dlo’s tonight but in general I think that is one of, if not the weakest stat as far as accuracy and I hate to use it. Wood played crappy tonight (0-4 from 3 and 1-5 overall) and in my opinion his 16 minutes was plenty.
After everyone posted here, Ham called for another review, losing it for no reason other than it’s his Prince Charming
AD, Rui and Reaves took 57 out of the 91 shots we had tonight. Prince shot 50% (4-8). Where are these shot opportunities he’s supposed to be getting to score that many more points than he did regardless of how many minutes he’s playing? There’s only one ball.
He never seems to crack more than 11 points though Cookie in any game. He was averaging 9.5 as a starter at 30 plus minutes a game. He’s just better off the bench for 20.
Once again, I’m fine with him playing less minutes and coming off the bench. I think that’s a better role for him. What I don’t think is fair, is he gets blamed for things like his lack of production when he’s taking and making what shots are available to him. Or the coach calling a challenge for a play involving him. It’s not like Prince has control of that or asked for it like Bron does but it’s always his fault. Plus with all our injuries, he had to start this game unless you want the 3 guard lineup that has been s*** this year.
I think Prince is a fine bench player for a playoff team to haveand I know correlation doesn't equal causation but damn:
Prince was signed to be a 3&D player off the bench and play around 20mpg. He was happy to come to LA in that role, and he's really good at it. But then Ham was like
Maybe we should all flood Ham’s inbox with this stat? I too really like him off the bench in limited minutes for factual reasons.
Hopefully his minutes continue to trend down...trash a** player when he plays 30+ mins...good a** player when he plays 15-20 mins
