I wish Huertas was released, so he could go back and play ball in a league where he belongs, but I'm glad Black was kept. Maybe there's still hope, maybe if B0ron is fired quick after the season you can still convince him to come back.
Yeah, but one of his main appeals is price. If we have to make him restricted and overpay to keep him it defeats the point. He's good because he is a really decent backup hustle big for a crazy cheap price. If you have to start paying him the same as every other backup big you might as well go shopping for anyone else. But then again I guess the market is changing and he'd have to be paid more anyway.
We wouldn't likely have to overpay. A qo would be cheap, and few would overpay for what he has shown so far.
Honestly we're crushing his value right now. He showed some good things, but nothing more than a backup big man who is undersized. He showed some good stuff on a truly terrible team, but now on a worse team he can't even get minutes. I don't think he'd get a heck of a lot more than the minimum on the open market now.
I hope you're right, because I'd like to keep him around for cheap. Yeah he's limited, but last season was only his rookie year, and he showed he belongs in the league at least. Every year there are teams that overpay for bigs, and often ones that WE give the initial shot to or even help get their careers on track. I'd like to see some long-term continuity start developing on this team, beyond our longest tenured players in Kobe, I believe.. Sacre.
yeah, if you can twist utter misuse of talent as a bonus, there it is. who's going to bid high on a guy who couldn't break the rotation on a 14-win team, rightly or wrongly.
Sacre, Nick Young... But at least we're moving forward with Randle, Russell, Clarkson, and Nance Jr. for a long time. That's not a bad start at all.
Yeah, not seeing Black play must be one of the biggest disappointments this season. But I guess there's a logjam at the PF spot which puts Bass (who is playing solid lately) at C. Honestly there's only a limited amount of playing time for either Sacre or Black so I don't think it even matters at this point. Hopefully Nance will develop a semi-reliable 3 point shot during the offseason. I'd like him playing the 3 next to Randle. Only then would it make sense to resign Black as our backup PF/C.
Good. Classy of them I think. Black for sure needs to stick around long enough to see gone and a decent coach hired that will give him a fair shot at playing time.
I think if we aren't bringing him back, that would be a smart move to pick up some assets. Unless we want to just ditch his expiring salary....
Eeeeeeehhhh ....... man I don't know. With the pace at which Nancy is improving and reportedly still not 100% from normal timelines of rehab from ACL surgery, I think we need to hang onto him and see just how good he is going to become. Put him in there next to Randle at the 3 for some playing time and let's see how it looks. Scott reportedly said he wants to try this. How about one of his infamous 10-15 game trial periods to see how it looks. There goes the pick but seriously we need to start looking like a decent team on the upswing again for this summer's free agent signings.
