I am really happy about this signing. I honestly think the Lakers were trying to hide him last year. Kobe's farewell tour was an aberration. I'm not using that season as a measure for any player, other than Nick Young being garbage. He frequently rolls to the basket and FINISHES. He has that nice slightly-above average athleticism that allows him roll with force, but he's not over-confident to try and dunk everything. He gathers his feet and is patient with his pump fakes if he's out of position. For him to chip in a few pts, rebs and a timely blk or two, is a huge boon for the 2nd unit. Black will be excellent. Not to mention he well be an excellent sparring partner for the Zub-God project
This is a fantastic article that sheds some light on a guy who's been - at least to me - a bit inscrutable. For @JSM "They also heard from leaders in the industry, including ex-players Devean George and Danny Granger, who both have their own successful real estate companies." Thanks for the post, Cachooka.
Good for Tarik. By all accounts, he's a good person, and it just wasn't fair the way Byron treated him, but Tarik acted with all class and never said anything negative. I'm glad he got paid and will have finally have a fair shake under Luke to showcase his talents.
I can't recall now why @JSM hates Devean so much... Looking at our latest rosters seems nitpicky to me. George vs Young. Or Wes. Or ..... He was probably our best SF since Rick. Who am I forgetting?
Right... Forgot about Ron. I am not positive Ariza is that much better, if at all, than Devean was. But surely JSM will rage upon that one I am also pretty positive I'd take George over Barnes.
I don't hate Devean George, he'd probably be more successful in today's NBA with his 3 pt shot... but Agree to disagree
i always thought jsm's george dislike was genuine at first but morphed into schtick over time. because he really wasn't THAT bad. in fact, he was probably an average nba player for a few years. not the sharpest of hoop iqs, but a rangy athlete who could defend (not lockdown), finish and hit enough open shots to keep defenses honest. i think if he had a time machine, he'd be on an nba roster right now.
Good assessment. George played well in spot minutes. I remember him doing well in 2002 Finals against Jersey hitting some timely shots. Yes, George was not instinctive but he was no airhead like Wesley Johnson was. If we are critiquing Laker small forwards, Jackson's coaching staff would describe players lost on the floor playing "RickBall" as a dig to Fox.
