    6'9" is not a center.

4-time DOPY Ben Wallace says, hi, how are you, and I want you to have a blessed day.

Wallace is the exception, not the rule.

And the differences between Tarik and Ben have to be pretty clear too, right? Not just from a physical standpoint but from an approach, personality, and demeanor standpoint.

    Tarik Black
    Bismack Biyombo

That's 2 more. I bet we can get up to 20. That's not the rule, but it's clear that it's not an anomaly.

I'm a pretty big fan of Black. His energy and hustle allows him to out do bigger centers, but with the league going smaller a lot more now he can be even more effective. Really like him rolling to the basket as well.

s***. Can only find 13 according to bkref:
    Allen
    Anthony
    Bairstow
    Biyombo
    Black
    Blair
    Diaw
    Hayes
    O'Bryant
    Stokes
    Thompson
    Tolliver
    Williams

Nonetheless, on our team, we also had Bass (who played a lot) and Randle play some C for stretches. If I can find 1 person like that for each team (I know Millsap did it), then that's a giant list of 30+. Don't hate on short tall dudes.

I'm not hating on him or them in general, but how many of those are full timers? I like Black, but he's not an ideal Center fit and is best used as a benchy. He's also far, far, far from Ben Wallace.

What is a full time center, anyway? Only 30 dudes 6'11" or taller played more than 24 MPG. Only 16 played 30+. Only three were over 34. Crazy.

But I guess the point is, we have two seven footers, and one undersized guy with a great motor albeit limited skill set so far. If you are going to target anyone, you aren't going after more guys 6'9". Makes no sense.

Not a single guy on that list would I go after and look forward to having as my starting center.

A full timer I guess these days would be someone capable of handling 25 or more minutes a game I'd say. The small ball Center is definitely useful and I like Tarik as that, but when it comes down to it you still need a big, tall dude with long arms near the basket. Golden State really missed Bogut against Thompson. Ezeli and Draymond and Varejao just couldn't compete with him.

yep. you need a 25mpg big body who's worth putting on the floor and does "big guy" things: rebound, deter at the rim, and, perhaps most importantly, set screens. if they can finish a lob, they're suddenly worth a lot of money. you can play the other half of the game with a smaller guy who does those things.

this is why i was a bit concerned about paying biyombo big money. he seemed like the the guy you bring in second (as toronto did), not the starter. we'll see. i'll be watching moz/biz/ian pretty closely, likewise with deng/m. williams.

Most of these 6'9" C are just hustle guys who cant score a basket on their own if their life was depended on it....black is only here cause we have nothing betterbetter to get imo, hes an absolute moron on D, im sorry but dude gets lost on everything, from switching on pnr d to being absolutely lost on transition d. Hell id say turiaf was a betyer backup C than black

I don't think it's a surprise if Turiaf was better. There's a reason he stuck in the NBA for so long. Loved that guy.

Also a bit different situations. Black hasn't been given a 100% fair shake at this.

black reminds me a lot of turiaf, minus the quasi-respectable midrange jumper. in any case, i'd be open finding another center, but that doesn't mean jettisoning black.

Yes...that and plus lack of competent teaching and coaching.

He's an RFA right now but nobody has made a move on him as far as I know. The Lakers may even be able to keep him for the QO of about 1.18 million.

Don't really understand the Black hate. He's not great or anything, but I'd have no problems with him being the backup center. He rebounds, he finishes plays, blocks shots, athletic, screen setter, but does foul a lot and and can get overpowered, but that's why you don't play him more than 15 minutes a night.
