yes, some guys will get complacent if they get their own version of a golden parachute. Some people simply don't have the passion to perform/train/improve without the financial incentive. If he's that guy, beware of contract year performance always. It's a mirage until proven otherwise.
Stan and Reaves were the only bright spots last year outside of some fun Melo shooting nights. Sucks he’s being traded after I thought he’d turned things around finally and started to get it, the role he needed to fill. Saw a tweet that said clearly Utah remembers him owning Gobert last season, and yeah, I’m sure they like how he plays, as we should have.
Really like Stan, he is a bit of a Swiss Army knife in that he can defend, cut without the ball, drive a little and move the ball. Shame to let him go as a throw in on a deal for a buyout candidate. I think he can develop into a nice glue guy.
I agree that with LeBron/AD/JTA and Troy, his playing time would be reduced. It seems Troy is valued over Stan by the organization. Still, I think he was one of the bright spots of last year and deserved a shot in a better roster like we seem to have this year. But they worked with him last year so there's enough information to our coaching team and FO to not take this decision lightly
i'll be watching brown and JTA closely. feel like neither can play as big as stan, which was useful at times for us. stan still has some more upside, imo, too. for him, utah will definitely be a situation in which he can carve out some minutes and try to get a bigger payday. though i think he would have had a similar shot as a complementary guy on a winning team.

can't both have been playing connect-4 and losing? because from ainge's perspective, demanding a player that you end up cutting is also pretty dumb. you should have demanded something of value. i know fans focus on "winning" trades, but you don't win by making the other person lose. in this case, both teams lost. btw, this is classic ainge already. they also had to cut jared butler, another potentially useful young guy, because they have too many too look at. sort of like how teams like okc and boston have had to shuffle picks around or basically dump them because nobody can actually use 3 1sts in the same year sensibly.
Yes I was pissed Johnson was a throw in but Ainge cutting him before the season just makes him look dumb IMO.
I think Ainge knew he was working out for us so he was happy just to take him away, even knowing he may likely dump him. At least he kept him from us, his arch nemesis.
a 2nd rounder would have been more valuable to him. and he had to pay to cut him. this isn't danny ainge playing chess or whatever.
Is there no way to sign him now? With AD at the 5 a big wing would be helpful. His shooting would fit in with the rest of the team too
he has to sign elsewhere and get waived. it wouldn't surprise me if he made it back to us this year, though. somebody will sign him on a 10-day at least, and i think that may be enough to make him eligible to return. i'd take him over harkless.
You know, this rule sucks. If nobody signs him, we still can't and he would just have to sit a year and we would not get a player we could use. Something wrong with the way this rule is written. There should be time stipulation that lets him sign with us if nobody else has signed him after a certain amount of time.
i think it allows for the same screwy stuff to happen that forced the rule in the first place. he could just sit for a month; his agent could tell no one to pick him up. but wait: if i read that right, we can sign stan now if we want? he was waived and wasn't claimed. but that seems exploitable like the old rule? maybe the site is wrong.
