Before he broke his foot in 2001. After that, Troy Hudson and Mike Bibby owed their next contracts to Fish. Fish was never the same on defense after that but he at least tried and was OK when team defense was moving well.

yeah, fish came into the league noted as a bulldog type defender. and he retained that physicality throughout his career, but his feet were so much slower in the later going.

I don’t know if it was Phil’s design or Fish’s repeated stupidity, but he would leave his man, a deadly three point shooter to double some stiff in the post being guarded by shaq. As if leaving Bibby to help shaq with Scott Pollard was the smart defensive move.

No one thought Bibby would turn into a no miss from the perimeter point guard. That whole series was an anomaly for Bibby with Fishers help.

However, Kobe getting food poisoning after the Lakers shalacked the Kings in their building in Game 1 derailed the Lakers from really putting those guys away earlier. Some people think I'm full of crap when I say that, but I believe if Kobe wasn't jacked from the s***ty hamburger, Lakers run the Kings out the building again in Game 2 and end that series earlier.

Agreed about the Kings series, but bibby was just one example. Fish did that his whole career, even with Ray Allen to double team Perk.

Read somewhere that since the break he's shooting 9% from three. Nine.

    That's like AD bad.

Two players who have no business shooting 3s are hell bent on taking them.

The bad shot selection and blown layups are clearly impacting the morale of the team: it's like a black cloud raining down and your stuck trying to find an umbrella that works but they're all broken

I think the Lakers basically imploded after these 2 possessions. I mean these are just bad shots regardless of how bad he clanks them, correction terrible. Needless 3 point winner when you're not open, off the dribble, followed by a semi-break opportunity when you try a mid range contested bank shot????

Never seen anything like this to be honest: a star player so bad that his own team loses confidence in themselves

BTW I don't remember anyone bringing this up -- Durant comes out of this vindicated, in context of his "decision" to join the Warriors. I would run from that crap too.

I’m not sure he did try to bank that second one, I think he might just be that bad. We’re seeing the result of relying your entire career on almost entirely athleticism, the fall is epic.
