i know it doesn't seem like it because i wasn't nuts about trading for him (or any huge salary), but i'm actually a pretty big westbrook fan. i've had to accept in recent years that his style of play may not be conducive to winning, but we're going to find out. and it should at least be fun because he plays so hard and is so ferocious. fun to watch.

He's going to be great in the regular season.

OTOH, the playoffs are going to be a nail biter to see if he can change his game enough and the Lakers can find two guys who can shoot and play defense to match the big 3 (come on THT and Monk I got a lot of faith in you two)

He's gotta play smart and take fewer contested jumpshots and cut down 3a. In the flow of the offense he can catch and shoot but no to pull ups.

This is awful to even think considering Russ hasn’t played a single game for the Lakers yet, but he also becomes a trade asset in the event we need to trade for Lillard

I can’t see it happening. If Lillard is moved this season and we trade Russ for him, this would do quite a bit of damage to our reputation among the players. And we’re always trying to be the best franchise for players with moves like trading them to where they want to go or working with their agents or giving Kobe a good last contract as a thank you.

Nah, doubt there’s any worries there of Lakers doing something like that for a bad look ….. but it is an intriguing point.

yeah, our brand has been to treat our stars very well, without letting them just run the organization (a la houston, bkn, clippers).

Business is business and the players, if they're smart understand this. As it is the NBA is officially a players league. I won't get into that last Kobe contract except to say it was a mistake. Kobe said it himself, if you need to be talked into playing for the Lakers you're not Laker material. Handing out max money or near max money to players that can't contribute anymore on a level as a max player is bad business period.

Have a lot of respect for Dirk when he took less to finish out his career with the Mavs so he could help the team get better by leaving more on the table. Sometimes it's not all about you but what you can give back as well and that goes for people in all walks of life

There will be testing times as Hall of Famers will have to adjust, sacrifice and give up comfort in order to help the Lakers become a championship team. If big demanding personalities like Ron Artest and Rondo can adjust, sacrifice and team put up with those guys I think we will be OK with Russell even if hes not a perfect fit. The egos of great supporting cast and leadership of Lebron will be tested big time. They all have to lead sacrifice, that's the only way they will stay united through the ups and downs of this season. We have to establish AD as the No.1 option on offense and give him a ton of touches. I think he's our best player, everything else will open up once he's in rhythm and gets it going.

well, there are two guys who have played in this league that you did NOT want playing angry. One is Westbrook and the winner of all time was Jerry West. Everyone still knows that you never wanted to piss Jerry off.

We will not need Lillard. Russell Westbrook as the 3rd option will be death for the league if Lebron and AD are healthy.

i'd say kobe's contract wasn't a mistake, because i think it was definitely part of why lebron signed here and AD forced a trade here. boston was the "smart business team", sending its stars off in trade and completely screwing thomas after he played on a serious injury for them. and nobody wants to play there. so...congrats, ainge, on your brilliance.

and as much as i think dirk is like, the very coolest nba player ever, his tale is a cautionary one and will probably be the last of its kind. his flexibility and loyalty was largely so that he could remain competitive without having to move. instead, dallas's FO failed time and time again to capitalize on his generosity. the end of his career would have been the same had he just taken increasing amounts of money, tbh.

I think our best player is still LeBron. A AD led team with no stars doesn't make playoffs. A LJ led team (right now) is a lock in playoffs.

Rob Schneider: We might trade you for Lillard y'know. Especially if you can't hit the 3. or Free throws.
