I was a little bummed on Rui last year at times but he did play well in the playoffs and his 3 point shooting was really good. I’d like to see what he can do with the starters this season especially with Ayton in the mix. He’s got to step up his D and rebounding but he should get plenty of open looks from distance next to three great passers and a real center.
I'm confident Rui and his team will realize the grass isn't always greener, especially after having spent the first few years of his career with the Wizards. Even if he's coming off the bench, Rui is a key contributor to the most famous basketball team in the world that just acquired a 26 year old superstar. There are a ton of wings who would love to sign up to be spoon fed corner threes by Luka Doncic. So think hard about taking a million or two per year more from some bad team in free agency next year.
You haven’t missed much. Holly weird has just bowed to specific agendas and churned out either new garbage or never ending sequels for the last 20 years or so. The last movie that blew me away that I watched in a theatre was the OG ”Matrix” flick and the last one that had me in stitches on the big screen was the first “Super Troopers” movie.
Yes, but I'd rather use him for this year and try to compete than get some 2nds back for him. The seconds are useless to us, whereas Rui will help us win games in the playoffs. Sure, the counter argument is; you lose him for nothing if he walks. My argument is, you lose a credible rotation player to compete for a ring this year and all you get in return for trading away a rotation player is seconds in future years, that you could most likely buy anyway.
Agree but Rob will get further bashed about margins if he agrees with you and does that and for any amount of reasons not meaning we didn’t have a good team this year … injuries say hello …. we don’t go deep. But “seems” to me with Mark Walters’ rep as uber competitive that he would agree with this.
seconds are what got us DFS last year, and i'm not positive that an unhappy role player helps you win that much, tbh. hate to be the guy, but as it stands, rui is kind of barely a playoff rotation guy. and you can't easily buy 2nds midseason to add to trades. even buying more than one second at draft time isn't that easy. my hope is rui just shows up and plays, and we hear nothing about that contract from his agent this year. that's the ideal situation. if we hear chirping, i'm more open to options than others are, i guess.
There’s been no indication that Rui will create any kind of drama team wise. And yes, Rui isn’t some kind of amazing game breaker - we all know that, but he scores efficiently from multiple places on the floor and he is a top 7 player in our rotation. We need more of those and not less. Second round picks be damned.
yeah, i feel like this is turning into "abeer wants to trade rui for seconds" when that's not what i said. i said if he's not happy with his contract situation or role, we need to consider just moving him before he walks for nothing. the market won't yield much more than expiring+2nds or a player on a longer-term deal. there wasn't an indication that DFS would throw a hissy fit in FA, either, but he did. down to accusing rob of trying to lower his value. i'd rather not deal with that kind of stuff again, and i'm guessing rob is the same. good news is that i'm sure this has been communicated to rui's agent.
@LTLakerFan trying to keep another player, and I'm trying to trade one. Rui can go for the right price. Anybody can outside of Luka. Don't care if it improves the team and gets us closer to a championship. FYI, he's been staying close to Luka so maybe he thinks that helps.
Am I the only one who doesn't like the Rui+Knecht for Wiggins? I think Rui is going to benefit tremendously playing with Ayton. He was playing out-of-position for spurts of the games because all the Lakers had was Hayes and Len. What you're getting from Rui is an efficient 14/5 player who can play the 3/4. Knecht, verdict is still out on him. I think he deserves a chance to prove his worth. I like Wiggins but I'd be much more comfortable if it didn't include Rui.
For me, its the combination of Rui's uncertain contract situation with us going forward and Wiggins' defensive versatility that makes me a yes. I'd love to do it without Rui, but matching salary gets tricky. I thought for a while that Gabe/Kleber/Knecht worked salary rise because Fanspo said it did, but apparently that's not true.
I admit to having been intrigued by the possibility but as I think further on it I don’t like it. Wiggins is 31, hasn’t been the same since he won the chip a few years ago and makes too much money. Stick with Rui and see how he fits Ayton.
