I forgot Sacre had a thread. He is what he is, a 7 footer with 6 fouls to give in a pinch if something happens to your first 2 centers. Not for extended time, like if there's weird foul trouble, or a guy is out injured for a few games. That he's played this much is too much to ask, he has not progressed, again, he is what he is at this point. If we had 2 real centers better than him, that would go back to not being such a bad thing at his price. Then again, at this point you might take a chance on another 2nd round big or D-Leaguer for the same role and hope their ceiling is higher.
For a third stringer, he neither gives you much, nor does he take away much from your team. He's about what you should expect of a third string center actually, and his contract isn't bad, so unless you can find another big third stringer with promise as Weezy suggested, I say he's pretty good for his role.
I like Rob a lot, but next season he'll be almost 1 million dollars. That's a bit too much I think. I'd waive our rights to him and if he wants to return after we use our cash elsewhere, sweet. Otherwise I'd probably just go with someone else.
You know that doesn't bother me at all. He's a hard-working kid, good locker room guy, can play spot minutes at the 5, etc. I'm glad to hear this actually...
Laker brass right now is big on "character" so this has one written all over it... Sacre is limited but doesn't mean he takes plays off or doesn't try to improve on what he has even if it is incremental.
The NBA kicks teams back for his contract, so technically he'll still only count as a minimum against the Cap. What I've heard though is that they're open to moving him so I think this might be one of those deals. We pick up his option and try to move him. Worst case scenario we have a bargain bin 3rd string Center. Best case scenario, you include him in a trade and get back a more impact player.
Exactly what I was thinking. I don't take this news as much of anything really. We were going to pick up his option regardless I think. It was going to be a trade of some sort if he wasn't on the roster next season. I mean, we still have to get to 12 players somehow, right?
Sacre keeps improving and working hard, it's just he doesn't have a lot of upside left. But for a 3rd string, strong 7 footer with good character and 6 fouls to give, and occasional shots made plus 100% effort ..... what's not to like until it changes for something better.
i know he's a good guy...relatively cheap...gets along with everyone...but for this lakers fan, two faces instantly come to mind when i get reminded of our 60 team loss last year: Sacre and Wes..i wish we could drop these guys
he's a free agent again this year I based on what I remember from the exit interviews with Mitch and Byron I doubt he is back next year because of the many other players we'll try to bring in before him.
unless the lakers find a prospect worth developing, I don't mind sacre as a 15th guy. he seems popular and a positive force in the locker room/on the bench. nothing wrong with that. we dealt with madsen. hell, he's still here.
If this means no additional late 1st/early 2nd round center with questionable habits, health and character, then I'm all for it.
