friend of mine and i were talking about how bad nba officiating is and came up with a simple way to fix a lot of stuff: spirit of the rule/game interpretations. simply put: any play made to get a whistle doesn't get one. even if a foul occurs. harden and lou williams might have to retire, and we'd have to retroactively dock shane battier's pay. but it could work. i'm not sure when "drawing fouls" became a skill worthy of praise, but when it did, the game started suffering. used to be that you got fouled because people couldn't stop you, now people can't stop you because you "get fouled".

that lillard play, if anything, should have been an offensive foul.

...about Harden. Defenders should adapt the Dave Cowens mentality. If you know the refs will call the foul, foul the **** out of him then let them know that THAT was a foul!

problem is that you're trying to win the game. mwp and ingram have both tried to get the refs' attention (as have others). both moves were counterproductive.

if harden played for the lakers, 12 small-market owners would have already squashed him.

Literally the worst no call ever. Ref was looking right at him and all of KD was out of bounds. Sadly I think it can absolutely get worst than that this season.

They review every other f****** thing but not a call like that? Guess you don't stop play. I can't believe the calls I'm seeing this year where refs are staring right at the play from 10-15 feet away.

What on earth? Does the league not know what that particular interpretation could lead to?

I guess all is fine in the service of glorifying harden.

This is the end of basketball as we know and love it. It’s like watching some terrible tragedy unfold and standing by helpless to stop it. Our only hope is that players coming up right now as kids, or in high school, are just as disgusted by Harden’s play as we are and try and purposely bring back a more old school way of playing because they don’t like the current product they’re seeing. A long shot, but you never know, kids often try to rebel against the style that’s popular at the time, or try and bring back old stuff as a sort of pushback against what everyone else is doing. I expect/hope to see that at some point with big men and post play, to see some generation at some point get tired of the Warriors and ‘Antoni style of play and try and bring back the old school basketball because it’s been gone for so long. That’s my hope anyway. I know if I was a kid in school right now my friends and I would be making fun of Harden’s play all the time, but then again my friends and I used to mock Wade’s play over a decade ago and he seems to have inspired Harden, so who knows.

Jeezus call a foul if you have to but that did not impact his shot at all as the ball was out of his hands. And the other guy flopped anyway.

There needs to be some viral on line rebellion from fans on what Mr great commissioner Silver and the league's front office is sanctioning with Harden and players like him that they are supporting. Like abeer said a few days ago (paraphrasing) about the spirit and intent of the rules needing to be upheld. WTF are they thinking when they see these moronic calls from refs looking right at them just on these last couple of pages here even?

i haven't played in a while, but my peeps tell me that gyms are full of dudes just jacking step-back threes and preening.

what i can't figure out is whether fans actually enjoy this. i don't. but the nba must think fans like watching stepback threes and free throws. otherwise, we'd already have seen some rule/interpretation changes. i mean, there was an article last week about how harden's recent tear isn't really a tear--it's just him jacking like, twice as many contested threes as anyone ever has. and the prescription for further greatness is going to be taking like, 25 of them a night.

my partial solution has been to move the three point line out and make the court larger (wider at least). that way, corner threes aren't 2 ft shorter (so pj tuckers are out of a job), and the floor can open up for cutters and plays at the rim--which actually are fun to watch.

i just don't like watching guys jack threes. am i alone?

i'll make another "get off my lawn" statement: i actually think there's more basketball art in post play than in off-the-dribble threes.
