71 points is insane for a guard listed between 6’1 and 6’3.

I watched us hang on and beat Charlotte; couldn't believe the 38 year old dropped 43. Then I turned it off.

A GSW fan and friend emailed me: "Klay dropped 54 tonight," and I felt like, "Maybe I shouldda included the guy who had 37 in one quarter once in the 'possible 81' group."

Then I saw Mitchell with 71. In OT, yea, but still. Madness! I'm glad he escaped Utah. Incredible player, and he killed us a couple weeks ago; no one could stop him.

Okay yea: I really don't see a guy scoring 80 in a game again, but as Magic Skywalker (above) pointed out, we're in a period where scoring is way up, so who knows? I'm a really old dude now, but I still feel like a kid when a guy - any guy, even someone playing us - hits 50 in a game. It's a simple sports-fan thrill for me.

Someone says "Caris Levert" and I immediately think of the game I was watching where he scored 50. Yea: Caris Levert! Hell: you wanna know how ancient I am? I remember reading the LA Times the day after Walt Wesley scored 50 in a game. Cavs beat the Cincinnati Royals, 1971. I was a child, but I remember that. Most of y'all probably never hoidda the guy.

For personal reasons, that game where Kobe had 62 at the end of the 3rd and sat out the rest of the game? Against DAL? That was a major thrill for me. (And yea, the 81, with 3 guys hanging on him and he still just racked up the points. I've watched that entire game, like, five times.)

Some Guys Who Could Possibly Hit 80 Points Or More In A Game (But I just don't see it happening):
    -Luka
    -Mitchell
-Klay? (I guess we can't count him out yet: Klay could be the first guy to hit 15 3s in a game, if his teammates Steph or Poole don't do it)
    -Giannis?
-Embiid? (maybe not with a better scoring cast around him, incl Beardie)
    -Booker
    -KD
    -Trae?
    -Tatum?

    Who else?

One of the write-ups for the Cavs-Bulls Mitchell with 71 game said he intentionally missed a FT, then got his own RB and put it in to force OT. I watched it...and if he can "intentionally miss" a FT like that, he's unreal. Just looked like a FT that was too long, but damn...he did get the board and throw it in! Wow!

Was close to a violation though. Isn't the shooter supposed to stay behind the line until the ball hits the rim?
    Incredible game nonetheless by Mitchell.

One thing I noticed was that the ball went to the right side, while the 3rd Bulls' guy was in the left, which is brilliant. I can imagine being on purpose, kudos to him

He's a really bad defender. But man when he goes off he's very hard to stop. He's not super consistent though, but he's young and can only grow

Yea, I thought the same thing, but since around 2002 or so, it seems that for every lane violation the refs whistle for, 30 go uncalled. I mean, you see it, right? If it's not the FT shooter it's another guy jumping into the lane while the ball is still in the air.

I’m thinking he should lose some weight, even if it makes him less effective

I thought he had dropped a bunch of weight? No real reason for thinking that objectively I guess other than he’s been playing, and very well, and like heck yeah it would be the smart thing to do for his future.

might be hard to do, and as you indicate, his weight is part of his success. just so powerful. can you keep that lower body strength and shed the middle weight? that's for the athletic trainers, i guess. try to buy phx's guys.

I looked at the scores last night and saw OKC was up 74-54 at the half against the C-Bags, and it was one of those moments when my thought..."that must be a misprint...human error?" OKC dropped 150 in a non-OT game against them. I suspected BOS was on a BTB and not playing Tatum/Brown/Smart, but no.

Warms my heart to see the C-Bags get crushed. It's always good for a bit of an uplift during the day. Not sure if I'm over us blowing a 13 point lead to them with 3:40 left, and losing. That.Was. Egregious. So one thing I did to deal with it was to watch THIS.

Lakers told the ref if they got the RB they're calling TO, and a lot of the C-Bags were whining about that, because it looks like the ball got knocked away from Mychal Thompson. KC Jones was whining about it after the game, but in the NYT write-up about it, Larry Bird responded, ''Magic had to make a great shot to beat us,'' said Bird, who scored 35 points, 17 of them in the first quarter. ''It was a running shot going left, and only the great players can make that shot. We can't cry over the call. We had big leads several times, and we couldn't hold it.''
