I’m good with him being given minutes commensurate with him allowing Bron to coast some and not have to handle the ball as much or more minutes for breathers.......as long as he is taking care of the ball and not getting exploited for bad defense that can’t be covered for or for ice cold shooting where they’re just leaving him and we’re playing 4 on 5. It’s up to Vogel to keep him from hurting us.

    We need some more playmaking.

This is exactly what I was thinking the other day. Rondo used to be a very good if not great defender. He may not be as quick anymore, but he still has the IQ and I'm pretty sure if motivated, he can be at least average at this end. There's no doubt in my mind his ball handling will be helpful even if he has some boneheaded plays here and there. I am obviously in the minority here, but I am looking forward to having him back, I fully expect him to do a lot better on a veteran squad that is actually fighting for something.

Overall I guess I believe in the culture this team seems to have established and in Vogel. EVERYBODY is buying in, I can't imagine Rondo doing the same mistakes as last year. If that happens, I'm sure he will be watching from the sidelines pretty soon.

Rondo is one of the top ten in NBA history for assists per game. I get that his advanced metrics weren't good, but I also think he became an easy whipping boy/scapegoat when things went south last year.
He also improved his shooting somewhat.
I think he will have an impact this season, especially in the playoffs.

Except things didn’t go south for him last year, they went south 5 years or so ago when they got him out of Boston. From there it was a disaster in Dallas, inflated stats on a bad team in Sacto, good for one short period in the playoffs in Chicago, and good again for a short playoff run in NO. His reputation is “playoff Rondo”, because that’s pretty much the only time his game becomes effective, or he can turn it on for any worthwhile period of time. His defense has been falling off a cliff for years, his passing is so lazy it leads to ridiculously unnecessary turnovers, he is not a good player anymore. Can he be effective for 15 mpg to help us get through the season and take some of the burden off LeBron? I sure as hell hope so and I’m rooting for it, but I don’t see it at the moment, unless Vogel finds a lineup he really works with and he firmly plants him there. At the moment Caruso to me is a better offensive option because at least teams don’t leave him with 5 feet of space to double our bigs like with Rondo, and at least he will take a layup or dunk instead of driving right to the hoop and passing out inexplicably for a 25 foot shot. I’d also argue Caruso’s defense is worlds better, only when Rondo is focused is he better than Caruso at anything, and yes that is playmaking/post passing, which is why I hope he find a lineup he meshes with. I like Bradley where he is with the staters though, so I hope it isn’t there.

I like Caruso and hope we continue to develop him, but although he might be physically superior, he has a long way to go before he has the mental toughness of Rondo in a clutch situation.

That’s why you have Rondo around for the playoffs. But as far as clutch situations go, Caruso is a gamer, he has been a big part of some of our comebacks already this season with his defense.

I already consider Caruso a legit rotation player.
However, he has to stop missing wide open threes and making lazy passes.
If he tightens those things up, I think we won't have need of the other players I mentioned.
Remember, I'm speaking in the context of having a maxed out squad.
IT and Rondo are great value for the price.

Keep an eye on him .... I think he'd trade AD for Harden if no one was watching.

Not for the current fit with LeBron but if you take LeBron out, do you have more faith that AD will lead a team than Harden? I don't. AD isn't a first option player, yet. It's easy to see how things are going with AD being on a team in which LeBron is the one dictating the results but it's another when you're leading a team and Harden has done that better than AD has.

Not sure you’ll find a single person on this forum that would even entertain Harden over AD in a million years. I won’t speak for everyone, but I’m pretty sure a lot of members would stop watching the Lakers if they acquired Harden, including myself. Dude is a disgrace to basketball and is propped up by the refs. I get sick to my stomach watching that excuse for “basketball.”

Don’t want to be a homer, but the only way you choose the other guy is if you have a hard-on causing you not to think as clearly.
