He deserves a payday but I don't think it should be with us.

every year there will be people that will take a discount to pursue a championship

Rondo took his turn to reestablish his market value after some run-ins and health issues left him with few options. His regular season wasn't anything to write home about, but his playoff performance alone will get him a contract.

If it's with us, I don't see that coming with much of a raise knowing all of the other needs we have to address. His age, injuries, and regular season performance...... if he wants to run it back, that's fine, but if he's looking for a payday, I'd support whatever he wanted to do. he just has to know it won't happen here.

Man who would have thought a year ago when the season started, that now teams (including us) would be lined up for his services

I don't blame him for opting out...but wish he didn't.

Because now, expectations for him will go up and if he overpay him on a 3-year deal, people will quickly forget his finals performance this past year.

For me, I'll always love Rondo though. But I would also hate to give him 3yr/21M or something which is what he would probably get from another team at this point

Maybe these guys, KCP and Rondo would oblige us with just one year deals where they get nice raises allowed with Bird and Early Bird rights that wouldn't hurt us end of 21? And then we can decide on them if want or can afford going forward? Of course always riskier for an in his prime KCP getting injured and not having the nice multiple years contract.

I don't see Rondo leaving. But if he does, there are so few teams who could offer him something that would make sense to leave. At this stage, why would Rondo want to join a young team other than to be a mentor to a guard? And he still has a lot of game left as shown in the playoffs. Would Rondo want to not make the playoffs just so he can make slightly more money to mentor a guard? Makes no sense. Which team would offer Rondo big bucks other than a competitor? I can see the Clippers, Nets, Heat (if they don't get Dragic back), and maybe the Sixers? It's just a handful amount of teams. And who knows? Maybe the Lakers will negotiate to have him in their front office when his career is done... If I am Rondo, I stay.

So I think we can probably sign him back for two years without it hitting our cap, which IMO is perfect.

Good. Really don't want to lose him. Yeah, he's rubbish for the regular season on the court but I'm not sure we win this one without Playoff 'Do.

After listening to both Dudz and Vogel on the podcasts this week (both really good listens if you haven't checked them out), they really made it clear how vital his IQ and coaching was to this squad. Dudley said he put his IQ on par with Bron, listed several of the contributions he made on defensive strategy. Vogel said he's the biggest Rondo fan in the NBA.

He has such a good thing here where his voice is heard and we implement his suggestions. If he's serious about coaching after this, he's not going to have an easier path to that than from finishing it out as a Laker. And on the court, we have a group where he doesn't have to be relied on during the regular season. If he leaves, he'll have to babysit, wipe noses, hold hands, and probably start. That's not a good fit for the last leg, even if he does make it 4 more years like he wants to.

We don't need Rondo. We have AC. If he wants a payday he can get it somewhere else.

Much as we love AC he can’t (yet if ever) “lead” on the floor and probe and pass and get to the rim sneaky fast for layups like Rondo and doesn’t have his handles. Combo guard as opposed to true point guard.

He can do his sneaky layups with his 35 year old self somewhere else. Thanks but no thanks. He's looking to get a payday and he's pretty low on the priority list.

Seeing how AD is fragile I would rather spend that on re-signing Dwight or a couple more bigs to beef up the front court. We need AD insurance

AC + LBJ have the best +/- in the entire league. We good with AC

Rondo opted out of $4 mil. Here are some guys we can possibly get for that $4 mil who can play PG and have some experience...Jeff Teague, Garrett Temple, Michael Carter Williams (Shawn Livington 2.0), Evan Turner, Raul Neto, Alec Burks and DJ Augustin

Well we'll see, depends what Lebron, AD and Rob and staff all decide. Just asking .... any of those other guys been in Finals pressure, let alone won 2 rings and are as smart on the floor as Rondo? That carries a lot of weight I'm sure. Depends how much of a raise he's looking for and how long of course. And as @abeer3 has said it comes down to what LeBron and AD most want.

I like Teague and Augustin for this team. Both are on my target list for PGs to help in the regular season with Rondo still here, not to replace him. But you're REALLY discrediting what Rondo did in the playoffs.

Rondo deserves his payday. I'm just not sure if the Lakers are in a position to give it to him. We need to address front court /backup big depth and that's a more pressing need that we may have to overspend on to protect AD. I just don't know if we have the money that Rondo is looking for. If he had opted in, I think I would be alright with it.

And Bradley. KCP is more of a concern for the Lakers as he's the most reliable 3 point shooter among the guards. Rondo despite his very good production in the playoffs is more expendable

Rondo can stay in Cancun for most of the regular season for all I care. But I seriously want him in the team come playoffs.

Hopefully he leaves Cancun nice and clean for when he departs, and Portland and the Clippers show up.
