Damn the Zinger is good. I'm kinda jealous.

he is really really good but I felt this would happen when we got no. 2, we went with one of the top 3 prospects and not risk it with an unknown euro.

No way he could have manned up enough to get off our bench with Byron. Fish is figuring out how to get the most out of him.

There is no way we would have been comfortable with Porzingis at #2 and you guys know it. Russell in another offense would probably be averaging a little more in every category and people would be like "wow that kid is pretty good".

    I'd rather have Russell/Randle than Randle/Porzingis anyway.

I think everybody does real. You just don't take another power forward at no. 2 if you picked one the year before. That would make you the 70centers. But if we fell at No. 4, you just get the best talent available.

Jealous not in the sense that I want Porzingis instead of Russell. I'm jealous that 1) Porzingis's performance has been more impactful than Russ's so far (though Russ's numbers aren't bad per se). 2) He is generating such a positive energy for his team and the NBA in general. 3) Lastly because of his impact, his team is playing decently. Yes 0.500 ball is decent when you look at their roster, and certainly when you compare it to our record and roster.

The Knicks season is nothing to write home about, but it's much closer to the season I envisioned the Lakers having back in the summer. So yea, jealous.

I'm totally on the Russell train now. Just 19 games into the season, in spite of Boron, his game and his confidence is growing just like Clarkson's did after the all star break last year when he finally got minutes. This kid is the real deal. Just stay healthy D'Angelo. Pick your spots to take it to the rack. Clarkson takes a lot of contact well already but DAR's body and legs aren't there yet.

real's right on, and part of what we're seeing is the power of low expectations. the ny fans booed when zinger was drafted, while everyone said Russell was the sneaky good pick over okafor (no mention of porzingis, who was apparently a close third on the lakers' draft board, ahead of okafor).

I still think Russell could end up the better player of the two. and I'm 100% I wouldn't have had the balls to draft porzingis ahead of him and okafor. and if the knicks picked second and the lakers 3rd or 4th, they'd have taken zinger, too.

I agree, I wouldn't have been comfortable with Porzingis either.

Especially when you have Randle, that would basically mean you gave up on him.

Porzingis will be a center once he gets stronger ...

He already can protect the rim and stretchs the floor on O ... perfect fit for today's game.

I'm fine with DAR and with the DAR over Okafor choice though .

The main factor to keep in mind imo is DAR is 6'5 and will be tougher to stop than the usual 6'2 , 6'3 PGs who are often locked up by bigger players down the stretch ( hello cp3 !)

i'll be very surprised if porzingis ends up playing center. dirk never did, kg never really did (and when he did, his knees blew up). guys with that frame can't take the nightly pounding on defense. but it's ok, as he's shown he can play the pf spot.

    You are right ...

I still think playing him at C with a big SF moving to the 4 spot would be the best scenario pending his physical aptitudes though

Stephem A has changed his tune on Phil:

    Thinks KD should consider NY.

I can't say I disagree with him. Whether or not Durant goes to NY, he should absolutely consider them. Melo, Porzingis, Lopez, Afflalo, Williams, Grant, Calderon, it's a solid team. Add Durant and whoever else they can afford and it's a very good team, because the East is weak as hell, and the buzz would be huge in NY getting a star that big. His road to the Finals would be Cleveland and nobody else, where in the West it's the Warriors, Spurs, Clippers, and some up and coming teams.

I don't agree it's a ton better than the Lakers though, IF B0ron is gone. Russ, JC, Durant, Randle, Lou, Nance Jr, Black, FA center (Whiteside?). We essentially have enough to sign 3 max guys unless I'm wrong. A Derozan or Batum, a Whiteside, plus Durant, that's appealing. Then if we somehow end up with the #1 pick we have Simmons. The #2 we have Ingram or trade it for someone very good, there are ways we will look more appealing this summer. B0ron being fired has to be top priority though, otherwise no one worth anything is coming to play for him.

I think it's two max guys and a decent third.

I'm just laughing at Stephen's 100% about face because of the success of Porzingis. Dude is a clown on television.

Well, if those 2 max guys are Durant and a big like Whiteside/Horford, and we do keep our our pick and it's top 2, that's still as interesting as NY. That's a lot of "if"'s, but that's all we have to go on right now. We aren't as bad as we are being made to look right now. A year of experience for our youth, a new coach, a top pick eithe drafting a serious player or trading it for one, and we can start to turn this thing around quick. Plus in LA Durant doesn't have to share the ball with Melo, HE would be the man.

I don't think there's any doubt (at least to me) that the Lakers have the brighter future. The only issue is, when is that future going to come to fruition? Porzingis looks competitive today, Melo still has a year or two left in those knees, etc etc.

For me, even without the pick and just the other max slot, the Lakers are a better destination IF they make the right move at coach. If we fire Scott and go get Walton ASAP then I think we've made enough of a splash to have free agents actually look at us differently. We just need to have some sort of positivity heading into the summer.

Knicks have a better shot at winning now. I won't deny that, but not a much better shot if we play our cards right and certainly not the better future moving forward.
