Heck of a talent. Really, the ONLY thing holding him back is his health...if he was healthy for the GS series, I think Cleveland wins even minus Love. He's that good. One of my favorite players to watch...

I don't even know how much stock you can put in these program's impact for one and done players....

They are picking schools based on who is in front of them and how they will be showcased vs concern over the depth chart, learning the game, developing, etc.

Just a new world out there.

Phil Jackson: Andrea Bargnani Was 'Malingerer', Had 'Bad Effect On Team'
    AUG 11, 2015 5:00 AM

Phil Jackson criticized Andrea Bargnani, who signed with the Brooklyn Nets this offseason after a disappointing two seasons with the New York Knicks.

“AB was and still is a big tease,” Jackson said on April 23rd.

“When he was injured he refused to do simple non-contact activities like dummy our offense in practice,” Jackson said. “He seemed to be a malingerer and this had a bad effect on the team, and also on the way the Knicks fans reacted to him. When he was on the court, he had a hard time staying intense, didn’t hustle back in offense-to-defense transition, wasn’t active enough in defending screen-rolls.”

    Phil.... [IMG] [IMG]

If you don't have anything nice to say, how about say nothing at all. Geez.

I laughed at the recent Tim Hardaway Jr. comments from PJ. He stirs the pot, alright.

In other news, it shouldn't be that hard to analyze this one.
Look at where Duke players were drafted, compare their performance with averages of those drafted at those positions.
The difficulties would be a) deciding whether Duke players drop because they're from Duke (seems unlikely) b) finding a suitable metric for comparisons - Pts+Ast+Reb? Shooting Slashes? PER? ORtg/DRtg? Win Shares?

Because I don't care about Duke players and non-Lakers, I can't see myself ever doing that research.

As far as DUKE goes, he might not be wrong as far as expectations go for those players and how they turn out. Mostly it's Phil being Phil though, and probably covering for not getting Okafor when he was so close.

Concerning Phil talking like that about Bargnani, that's bad management. He's not a coach anymore, he isn't in the business of taking shots at other teams and players to get reactions or give his team bulletin board material from their replies. He's a GM now, he has to make deals with other teams, he has to lure players to the Knicks. It might not be an issue for many players, but I'd think at least some would be wary of going there if they think when they leave they are going to be trashed by Phil to the press or even in a book.

The reason Duke players generally don't work out in the NBA is quite simple. Historically coach K has recruited players that fit his system. They were still cream of the crop players, but they were players that in terms of work ethics, attitude, and skill set fit his plan. And while they have been very successful in that system, the NBA since the rise of Jordan has been player centric and not system centric. With 1 and dones this seems to be changing a bit for coach K, but the one and done is really changing the entire landscape of college basketball as it is allowing smaller and mid major schools who can run a team of sophomores and seniors compete more and more with the big schools who are banking on big talent for a year. In time you might even see a shift of power...maybe...
