the one good thing about getting george now is that he could help attract another superstar to join him in LA but if he's really that set on being a laker, he can force his way to LA in the offseason or maybe they can land PG/cousins in 2018. one can dream
Everything is lining up perfectly here 1. George isn't traded to Boston (or any other non-Laker team) 2. Lakers don't overpay for George to get him at the deadline 3. George is outright saying he wants to be a Laker, thus scaring off potential suitors 4. George enters this summer as an impending free agent basically, thus the pressure is on Indy to trade him and not lose him for nothing in the 2018 The Lakers won't get him for peanuts but they certainly can get him for a lot less than they would have if the situation was different.
...between now and whenever, I wouldn't be surprised to watch this thread balloon to Artest speculative proportions like it did in the CL day.
Don't know how reliable this was Mike Ortiz Jr.@xOrtiz4x 1 hil y a 1 heure In addition any deal would need to include Monta Ellis contract in the deal with Amir Johnson's expiring deal coming back in return. 3 réponses36 Retweets25 j'aime Mike Ortiz Jr.@xOrtiz4x 1 hil y a 1 heure Sources: Pacers asking for 3 of 4 from group of Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder, Marcus Smart, and Jaylen Brown + 2017 Nets pick for Paul George.
Probably too much. If George is forcing his way here, then we shouldn't give up much more than clarkson/black/1st or something.
Yup. That's my go-to trade offer. Heck, at this point the Lakers should try and keep their Top 3 pick and toss in the Rockets 1st rounder. See how desperate Indy is.
i'm not sure what boston's doing. they do have two GREAT assets in those bkn picks, which will be top 5 in the next two drafts. but their two best players are approaching 30. thomas is going to get (over) paid, and horford is already paid. their other talent is middling. crowder is a great value contract, but is clearly a 5th starter/bench player. the same is true of bradley and smart. if i'm boston, i'd trade bradley/smart/crowder/whichever nets pick i thought would be worse for a player of the george/butler caliber. simply because the only real bluechip i'm giving up is the potential in the nets pick. i suppose that they can be competitive now and hope that those nets picks get them a true foundation piece (or two), but my feeling is that if you're a top 3 team in your conference, you should strike while the iron is hot. tldr: piling up trade assets is only useful if you trade them. the jaylen brown pick should have made that pretty clear, too, imo.
Given the reports, I'm not giving up anything for George. Just play the waiting game and continue developing our kids (aka trade pieces) The time to strike is the summer of 2018.
Why would you offer anything if he's coming as a FA ? Use these assets to get another player to make 100% sure he's coming here
Agreed, Boston signed Horford in an apparent move to win now. If they can give away a top 3 pick for George and not have to give up Thomas or Horford they really increase their chances of winning now. I don't get them not making the move unless they fear that badly that PG walks in 2018.
the possibilities are: 1. they think they're good enough to contend right now (i disagree, but we'll see, i guess) 2. they think that the nets picks are bound to produce a superstar (history says...be careful with that) 3. they think they can get him for less later or can get butler for less later (i'm not sure about this either)
Maybe that's what they were told that no matter what George only wanted to play for the Lakers or Pacers. Only reason I can think of.
