Easy. Scenario 1 is better. We wouldn't be giving up any assets for PG and would just be signing him outright.

As great as it would be to sign PG next yr and give up nothing you also have to think Stragtegically.

There is a lot of assumption that the young guys will grow into all stars etc.

Trading for PG might also afford the team to create cap space for next summer.

Sorry but PG and a bunch of under 23 guys won't be contending for anything.

Trading for PG gets PG. waiting for him leaves it open.

Never thought I'd say it but I would look forward to some tasty new poo gifs starring Lavar if we take Lonzo and Pops becomes an ongoing nightmare for us fans. Especially if Spectrum Sports Net thinks it's a good idea to have him on Lakers backstage and pre-game or other shows.

What must we give up now to get PG vs. later?

If we are in the driver's seat, with the best bargaining position, let's do it now. If we can get him for JC, Randle, and 28 or even Deng, 2, why on earth wouldn't we do that? Even JC, 2, filler is a good deal - moving a question mark and a one-dimensional player for a game changer is a no brainer. He won't significantly change our salary situation for the next couple of years, but he might attract a huge FA.

If we wait, we might not be very good (in fact, if we don't add something significant, can we win more than 35 games next year?). Would he want to come here? Would a team be able to put together a better offer? Too many question marks. I think you start now and make the move.

I'm on the same page but would remove any talk of the #2 pick. My objective in moving for PG now is to create cap space for next summer so the team can add another marquee name

    Have you been drinking, professor?
    :Brows:

Why would you trade assets (to remove all doubt -- #2 pick) for a player you clearly can sign a year later? If this is about Deng -- let's stretch his a**. If it's about cap space, same.

There should be no reason to give IND any of the young guys or #2. None.

    JC + 28 + Black, OTOH.

    P.S.

JC is not a young guy, to me, anymore. He is what he is, NBA potential wise.

Because there's a lot of unknowns that could occur in the span of a year. Yesterday I said I'd wait to sign him because theres too much that points him our direction. But you do the trade this season because it guarantees that he's here.

Yup, I was in the original let's be patient camp but I think if the Lakers can get PG for even less then they should do it. One reason is chemistry. It takes some time to build it. You can't assume you wait until next yr and have PG slide right in and win 50 games.

this is true but its really only "guaranteed" when he signs a contract extension here if we do trade for him. To be fair if we did trade for him I'm not worried about him leaving and not signing an extension. LA is his home and if he pulled that crap he wouldn't ever be able to come back to LA.

Guaranteed? How? He won't sign an extension and you trade assets for a player that will come in a year, barring injury, which could also occur if he is with us that year. Now what?

You wait for PG and perhaps trade some fluff (JC? Black? S&T Nick?) for a cap relief to make a push for Westbrook or the like in 2018.

What does trading accomplish aside from "instant gratification" and Jeannie possibly not being "heart-broken"?

I'm in favor of trading for PG now IF and only if we can do it Pau Gasol style. After learning Randle and George share an agent and are working out together, I am not offering up Randle in any deal. No Ingram, Russell, Randle, Zu, or #2.

#28, future 1st, 2nd round picks and Deng + Black + JC is as high as I go.

As big of a Russ fan I am. He missed the boat to be the leader of the Lakers when he signed that extension with OKC. He could have come home this summer as an FA but PG13 beat him to it. Plus with Ball and DLo I don't see a spot for Ball dominant Russ

It guarantees you that he's here for at least one year. Now whether he signs an extension or what we trade for him for is another discussion. You have him for one year instead of the chance of him being traded somewhere like Boston and they win a title and he resigns with them. Also by trading for him you get his Bird rights.

I agree with all of this but I don't think we can include the 2019 1st Rounder in trade this year for some reason. Pincus or someone who knows about the CBA was tweeting about this the other day.

Why even include a future 1st rounder. They should be lucky to get the #28

Lately I've lost interest in acquiring George. If Ingram shows clear signs of developing into a franchise player, I'm not even sure if I want George next year.
