Which means Monta and Al will be going with PG if the Pacers makes a trade deal with the Lakers. Now that's awful. Those two were the exact same people and reason why PG is leaving Indy. Sent from my E6533 using Tapatalk
Paul George will be playing for the Lakers in the near future. Assuming all these reports about him being hellbent on playing for the Lakers are accurate then it's only a matter of time. Without the pick we can still put together a decent package. With it we can put together a great package. No other team is offering anything of value for him even the C Bags if George is keen in on becoming a Laker. They're not gonna mortgage their future especially the latter when they're already a legit contender without him just to see him leave a year from now to a hated rival.
How does SAS have credibility or even work for espn? This dude said last yr after Lebron brought a chip to clev that he would consider coming to the lakers....dude just says stuff without any facts to backup
You say that as if Indy has all the leverage here. They don't. PG is a free agent after next season, and the Lakers don't need to be bent over to land him. If Boston is dumb enough to offer their young assets AND take on those contracts, then they deserve to lose him in free agency as well. Don't think even Ainge is that stupid.
Boston scares me a bit, but Boston and Indy WERE talking according to most reports at the time (the denied it afterwards, but that's expected). I mean, Boston had that pick to offer then which will almost definitely be in the Top 3. So either Bird was asking for the freaking moon (like the pick, Smart, Brown, Crowder and a future pick) or Ainge was nervous about him bolting at the end of the contract.
Boston is the only team that I think can match or beat our offer, but Why would Indy want to trade PG to a competitor in the East..?
I don't think George wants to go to Boston and that's what is saving us right now. If he isn't willing to agree on an extension before the season with them we ashould be able to hold them off
I also think Boston isn't eager to give up pieces when they might be able to get other options easier. Hayward has been linked to them in FA. They've considered trading for Carmelo. I think it's sort of indisputable at this point that the George/LA chatter has cooled the market for Indiana. George hasn't demanded a trade, but by not staunchly denying the rumors of his interest he's sort of had a similar effect anyway.
I honestly do think most news out there about PG to LA are just click-baits. I mean does PG really love LA that much?
I think if Boston took the risk, they might win out. They have a ton of assets, a great young coach, some decent talent, and had the best record in the East this year. If they decide to take the risk, PG might be swayed to stay. Not sure that changes our approach, but it has to be considered.
If the trade is the #1 pick in the draft, Jaylen Brown and a future pick, Boston essentially gives up nothing tangible from the best team (regular season) in the East and gets a super-duper, supreme deluxe upgrade of PG-13 over Crowder, and another upgrade of Crowder over Jaylen Brown on their bench. Scarier still, they can do that deal and let all their non-guaranteed contracts walk and STILL have enough money left over to sign a max free agent. Theoretically, they could sign Blake Griffin to add to that. Horford would be a good center to play next to Griffin.
I understand the tie hayward has to stevens but i dont see hayward giving up all that $ to go to bos, only reason bos got Horford was cause atl didnt make him that initial max offer and then adding howard pissed horford off more. I dont see any big name fa signing un bos unless tjese similar circumstances happens again like horford....just like I don't see PG13 signing here as a fa, i do think he'll sign an ext if we traded for him but he wouldnt sign here as a fa in 18' whether he gets super max or not, money talks he wouldnt be exactly signing on with a team like gsw (i.e. durant case)
Or they could add Hayward and keep all that stuff. Or trade for Carmelo for a quarter of the cost and keep all that stuff too. Plus they avoid this George drama where he refuses to publicly state he's not trying to get to LA.
Would you (most anyone) want to spend the next 5 years of your life in Utah with the restrictions and everything? Maybe that's a factor. Boston may be a more desirable place to live for him? Plus the Coach. Pretty big incentive IMO.
True. But PG-13 is a better overall player than Hayward. And if you do the trade route, you clear enough space by dumping Brown and the salary for the #1 pick that you get George AND still can sign a max player. If you keep all the assets and sign Hayward straight up, you lose the max slot.
But keep the assets for a trade that could open up. It's the same argument but from different points. Besides, I'm hearing Boston is really high on Fultz.
Their decision is interesting. I could see the case for drafting Isiah's down-the-road talented young replacement who you're locking in at a low salary for years if you think your team's apex is a few years off. Then, instead of maxing out great-but-no-defense-playing Isiah, you roll with a super prospect in Fultz. That longer timeline would also coincide with the eventual demises of the Cavs & Warriors. The other choice is to cash in your young inexpensive talented assets now for a PG or Jimmy Butler to pair with Isiah/Horford/rest of their core. Is that team's ceiling good enough to beat Golden State in the next 4-5 years? I say no, but I'm not Ainge. Either way, this Summer will be an extremely interesting one for the C Bags.
i draft fultz, sign hayward (so happening), and laugh all the way to the bank. next year, i use thomas and bkn's next high pick to get another allstar. but ainge will probably sit on his assets until they depreciate, per usual.
