JC, Randie ,27th pick and 2nd round pick for Paul George is all I'm offering Indiana. No way in hell am I offering Ingram, dlo, ivica, Nance, potential top 3 pick for PG. If PG is adamant on leaving that's actually us doing them a favor and offering talent for someone that's foot is already out the door
Seems like Bird is never going to do a deal with the Lakers for George if he's not getting fair value. Surprising to read in here that he's never done a deal with Ainge yet for that reason, unlike McHale. https://www.pressreader.com/usa/los-angeles-times/20170306/281908772936263
Then he runs a very real chance of losing him in 2018. Not just to us but to anyone because the Pacers aren't going to magically become contenders by next summer. I'm fine with that.
Works out better for us if that's the case. Bird is going to any leverage the closer George gets to Free Agency.
Exactly. That's why I figure Bird is hot air right now. He'll look into what he can get this summer, I'm sure of that. If he doesn't like it, he'll continue his shuffling around George, and then revisit at the deadline. If I'm Magic though, George is on my backburner anyway. I want to a) get that pick and then b) upgrade without Paul George this summer. You've got to make this house a home before someone will want to live in it.
Fair value. That definition will change the closer he gets to free agency. It will never be higher than this off-season, so we'll see how good Bird is at playing chicken. See what I did there
I saw post that said PG has made it 2 out of last 3 yrs (including this yr). However I do wonder now that AD is moved back to a PF spot does that decrease his chance? Forward spot is open to all sf/pf so with that said unless he has an epic yr next yr he would essentially be competing with Kawahi, Butler, KD, AD, Towns (maybe, dont sure what he's officially listed as), Greek Freak just to name a few off my head, might be difficult. I assume its only 6 spots total between teams 1-3 (2 forward position for each team)
Forwards on the All-Star teams this year: LeBron, Carmelo, Giannis, Butler, Durant, Leonard, Davis, Love, Millsap, Hayward, Cousins, Green. That doesn't include DeRozan, Klay, Griffin, and maybe Towns. There's a chance he doesn't get it. I'd say the odds are roughly the same as us keeping the pick.
In a perfect world no team makes a play for Paul George this off-season nor by next year's trade deadline so that then he can come to LA in Free Agency 2018. But I just don't see that happening where nobody makes a trade for him. If another team doesn't make a trade for him this off-season I can't see Bird not trading him by the deadline to get at least something. Now, maybe we are that team that trades for him but I'd prefer not too but if we may have to if its because another team wants him. I don't see George leaving a team like the C Bags in free agency if he's traded there. As much as he likes LA unfortunately. It a really is a tricky situation for us
And it would be significantly more than that if he lands on an All-NBA team. I'm a die-hard Laker fan, but if I have a choice of playing for the C Bags for 220 million or the Lakers for 130 (or whatever the numbers are), I would go out and buy a green Ferrari with a giant shamrock on the hood right after bought my new green house with green trim in Boston.
