How does the Russell deal mean anything negative for the Paul George situation? The Pacers weren't going to take him. They're not going to deal with us. We got a good player and we cleared a f*** ton of room in the move in order to pave the way for George next summer. What exactly about the Russell deal was bad at all, let alone bad for the George situation?

How? Nothing has happened! He hasn't been traded yet and even if he does, he's not signing an extension! The article even says he prefers the Lakers and despite them not being competitive is STILL keeping an eye on them. Jeez. I'm taking a break today. I can't deal with this sort of abject pessimism.

Have to see how next year plays out before seeing if we truly did the right move with Russell, which sucks since its such a long time.
Possibly. You could have talked me into that deal; number 2 and Deng. Instead, we got Lopez and a 25 win roster heading into next season.

you did read your own post, right real? the whole plan hinged on george being unwilling to consider other options. he's willing to consider other options. you're banking on the lakers making themselves look like a potential contenders between now and next july (while preserving the requisite cap space to entice a star or two). houston played that game a few years ago, but they had harden. we've got brook lopez and some 20 year olds.
Usually how it goes, you have to give up something to get the 1st star and then after that your spare parts become increasingly expendable knowing you can get another star to pair up with first. I've become more in the line of thinking I don't really care what we give up at this point, getting the first star is always going to be the hardest move to make.
This is just the difference between how people view and read things. I get it, I'm an optimist and some people aren't into it. I'm sure I come off as annoying to some because I look at the glass half full, but the feeling is mutual with people who only see that report negatively. The key was always going to be what our team looked like this season. If they aren't significantly better, why would George have come here anyway? If we didn't look interesting as a young, fun team, why would LeBron or George have their eyes on us? If we've kept up all along, then we should have known these things were true. We're fighting with the hand we've been dealt. Sure things could go wrong, but oh effing well. This is what we have.
