You can review my post history on how much I love Brook Lopez but getting him at the expense of DLo leaves a bad taste that I can't shake. I just hate Kupchak even more.

Now I could get behind Westbrook and a Magic transformed Boogie all flocking to Lakers to join forces with PG, Ingram, Randle, Lonzo and Shoebox to do battle against GS and the Kang on the newly formed Banana Boat Clippers. It would be glorious.

I mean as much as I hate this trade, value wise it is actually pretty reasonable. Your second paragraph is my main issue. I think his value would've improved a lot after another year of development and being the beneficiary of having Lonzo set him up for buckets in his natural position as a scorer.

I've been really negative and upset since the trade, but I think that was mainly prompted by the reports about us apparently wanting to trade away from #2 just to get another asset to give Indiana. Like 2 for 5/10 by itself is actually a great trade for us. But the idea that we were only thinking about it to add more to a PG13 trade where we should have so much more leverage is frustrating.

Part of it is also that this just makes me skeptical of our PR. A few years ago, Russell is the next Magic with elite passing ability and Sports Science segments. Now he's bait for a salary dump and Ingram is the real stud. What happens next year if Ingram's development comes along a little more slowly? Now he's out but Lonzo is anointed the savior?

Overall though, if we can trade for PG13 with a package that sends out only Randle OR Clarkson (while keeping #2), I'd be pretty happy. It's just something about the sequence of events today that had me on edge and doubting that we're going to handle this matter as shrewdly as we could have.

I don't disagree, but at some stage it's on Russell. He made it difficult on the FO as well. He wasn't easy with the media, he didn't toe the company line, and he just didn't have a personality that meshes with what we've got going on here. Is it fair? No it's not and sure the FO could have done some things differently, but I don't know... I'm still waiting for what comes next. I can't believe this move would be made in a vacuum. There's got to be more.

If we trade out Russell/Clarkson/#27/#28/filler for George and Lopez, I think we win. But we've got to get George here first.

That's all that's left to be said: pickup PG tomorrow (dump deng) and Lonzo on Thursday.

not sure about dumping deng at this point

if it took russ to get rid of mozgov, it'll take ingram+randle+#2 pick to get rid of deng

^at least Deng is a nice guy. Mozgov looked and talked like an ****. Much harder for me to like Mozgov than Deng.

Yea, we may just have to hang onto deng for now; at least we got rid of one of those horrendous contracts from last year.

We should all just go to bed and see what awaits us in the morning...

I cannot understand how it makes the deal easier with #27 instead of Russell...

Pretty sure it doesn't by itself. Apparently the Pacers are asking for two 1st round picks + a starter. The Nets deal gave us the needed extra 1st, while also dumping the Moz contract, while also adding a solid starting center who gives us a big expiring for the big fish next year. It only makes a certain kind of sense as an important piece of a larger puzzle.

i still don't get why d-lo wasn't used to acquire PG but oh well, just as long as we can acquire him without giving up #2 or the rest of the young core i'm fine

Honestly, I'm not sure of that. This trade was done at a time where the FO didn't know for sure they were getting PG, so I think it's more likely they just decided Dlo was out no matter how things played out in the immediate future.

I sure don't think they wanted him in LA by training camp, if they really wanted to change the culture to a winning mentality.

Nah, they'll trade those to dump Deng. Resign Swaggy to 45/5, then trade Randle to dump him asap. Salarrhea. Sirron, do your stuff.
