This is comically bad. He's good, it's at a crucial point in the offseason for cementing your team - and he likely had a lot of knowledge on the draft. Why the hell don't you settle this earlier?
love the media on this. read that zach lowe suggested houston could nab george with eric gordon and two 1sts. becuz...MOREY! or somesuch? in fact, i've seen just about every scenario discussed except george landing in la. i will say that finding out how involved bird still was in indy really dampened my spirits, though. need to get these former C Bags out of front offices. it has burned us pretty badly on more than one occasion.
My understanding is he left because he knew there wasn't anything he could do about it and that his best player was going to end up being a Laker (among other things, but this was a legit factor). So I'm not sure how much he has control in the office... I think part of not sending George to LA is just principle.
basically what you're saying, but he didn't want to be known as the guy who traded their franchises best player (assuming you believe he is).
mcmenamin claims the cavs have already been offered george in a three-team deal involving love (and an unnamed third team, who, presumably ponies up what indy wants). that's unpleasant, if true.
It's pretty obvious. Gilbert got his ring. He will wait on LeBron to bolt and will ride Irving for attendance while he can. Then Cavs will be back in the trash. He is not about to spend on things like GMs...
So Cavs FO will settle with a rental just to keep Bron Bron happy. Oh shoot. Forgot it's Bron calling the shots. So he's settling for a rental just to buy himself one more chance in his pathetic chase for another title. 3/8!!! Sent from my E6533 using Tapatalk
If the Pacers trade PG by the draft, it will probably be to the Cavs in a three-way since they can give them the best return. This could explain why news of the Cavs GM being let go just surfaced today. Maybe the GM wisely passed on the Love for PG offer thinking that the marginal improvement would not be enough to beat the Warriors, and then PG could bolt to LA after a year, meaning LeBron would be out the door as well. So the GM decided to pursue a Butler deal instead to both block the C Bags from acquiring him and to provide a more long-term solution to increase the odds that LeBron resigns next offseason. Perhaps LeBron learned of his refusal to trade for PG, and hence he was unceremoniously kicked to the curb for not fulfilling the wishes of the king. This is all wild speculation on my part of course, but if suddenly we get the news tomorrow that PG has been traded to the Cavs for Love via a third team, then this theory could be true.
Perhaps, but I was basing my theory largely on the emotional state of the Pacers front office and on the fact that Bird is still involved (although he's no longer the GM). You're correct in pointing out that the Pacers likely don't want the PG situation hanging over their heads at the start of the season, so I expect them to trade PG to any team outside the Lakers who will give them the picks and starter they supposedly are seeking in any trade offer. The Cavs might be the ones to meet the Pacers relatively high asking price, mostly because the Cavs front office is in shambles and LeBron doesn't care about anything beyond next season in Cleveland. If that doesn't materialize, then I expect the Pacers to drag this out at least until the end of the off-season. They need time to get over the distasteful idea of trading PG to his desired location, and they need time to get over their desire to not help out the Lakers thanks to the presence of Bird. I admit my original prediction of waiting until the trade deadline may have been hasty, since I do agree the Pacers want this situation done with before the start of the season, but I wouldn't underestimate their emotional thinking and how it could easily trump their rational thought process and lead to a much more drawn out process than anticipated if the Lakers end up offering the best package for PG.
Butler to Cavs, George to Lakers and Hayward to C Bags. Everyone's happy (besides their original teams)!
If the Cavs dump Love and get PG and he turns into a rental, the Cavs will be left with this in a year (Assuming Shump opts out of PO and Cavs decline option to Felder and Tavares to get max room).... Kyrie - 20.1 TT - 17.5 JR - 14.7 10 cap holds - 8 million Total - 60.3 million Lebron is going to want his money, they don't even have room to add another big time player. ~15 million left in cap space is good for another solid role player, but nowhere near a max deal for anyone. Maybe they can dump JR since his following year is only guaranteed 4 million dollars, but the team getting dumped on will still have to pay him 19 million dollars and the Cavs can't trade a 1st to dump until 2021. A team of Lebron/George/Kyrie and only one big man isn't going to beat the Warriors and when PG bolts, the Cavs are left with limited options to get better and that's with Lebron taking a pay cut from his 35+ million max. They could easily go from championship team to bust in one year if PG and Lebron bolt. I can see why Gilbert would want to go after Butler or Melo because he's greedy and wants the money from being a playoff team.
