@therealdeal already posted this with a great breakdown, but I wanted to post this again because it also has the time layout of when certain stuff was discussed if you want to listen to certain segments. Great listen of two guys that know what they are taking about:
This is going to get insane. Obviously Griffin was painted into a corner by Comic Sans and LeBron. When they looked around and realized how f***ed the team was, everyone got upset. Now if they make a crazy move and trade for George or Butler, this show will really get interesting.
big mistake, he did a tremendous job there under extreme circumstances. Toughest GM job in the league if not for sure in the top 3 of most difficult. I know many people makes the jokes that Lebron is the GM but Griffin had a lot of respect of his peers that worked under him and this I got from a recent Woj Podcast. Woj and Bobby Marcs love them some David Griffin. Cavs ownership really screwed him over because David could have been a top candidate for the 3 open GM spots that have since been filled.
Moderator on LG said he knew Jerry West. Clippers vacancy. Griffin is better than anyone they have in that Front Office. I have listened to several interviews with Griffin; he's a sharp guy. Very Good at what he does... Anyway, hope this takes them out of the Paul George sweepstakes.
How long are we gonna be listening to all of these BS? Til Thursday or July 1? Probably the most important detail were missing. Sent from my E6533 using Tapatalk
werd. this message needs to be clear and consistent. jordan clarkson on a reasonable contract for three years beats nada. seriously, not sure how he feeds or dresses himself. last trade deadline, imo, but the point stands. funny to see the league trip over itself to prevent a second-tier star from joining the third-worst team in the league. nice try, stern.
this is La's payback for the Hibbert season.....can't believe anyone thought that sloth was going to amt to anything here
As of now, it seems unlikely that the Pacers will trade PG to the Lakers. The Pacers have made it clear that they want a substantial package for PG despite the leaks of him being a "rental" at best. Meanwhile, the Lakers have made it clear that they do not intend to include any of their young talent in a trade for PG, which falls far short of what the Pacers are demanding. Most likely, the Pacers refuse to budge, the Lakers wisely hold onto their young talent, and we have to wait another season for PG. I can't fault the Pacers for passing on a Clarkson/#28/[filler] package for PG, especially considering how they have one last ace up their sleeve which is the super max if PG makes an All-NBA team next season. Seems reasonable to pass on all offers without a substantial piece needed for a complete rebuild (such as a lottery draft pick or a young player with All-Star potential) and just play out the season to see if just maybe they can win him over with a mountain of cash. It's easy for PG to say he's definitely leaving now, when he's not staring at $70 million more reasons to stay with the Pacers (assuming he qualifies for the super max)
Rush, if you're willing to make that bet (from the Pacers) prospective, you've got an enormous set of brass ones. You want to be the GM responsible for getting nothing for Paul George? The guy has made it clear for two years he is leaving. If you get past the deadline and Paul George is still on your team, you're finished. You better have a time machine or a great hypnotist because that guy is leaving.
Under normal circumstances, I agree it would take massive brass ones to make such a gamble. However, don't forget that Bird doesn't want to been seen as someone who "lost" a trade to Magic, so that will also play into the potential of a PG trade. Additionally, the Pacers are probably really upset with PG right now as seen by many media sources reporting that the Pacers plan to give "no favors" to PG, meaning if they had an equal package from the Lakers and another team, they would send PG to the other team. So while emotions could cool off over time, and perhaps the Pacers do eventually accept that they have no choice but to take a lesser package for PG, they would probably wait until the trade deadline before making that decision. That way they could assess the potential of a super max with a higher degree of clarity, and they would have the time needed to force themselves to be more accepting of sending PG to his preferred destination.
I would love if the Pacers wait until the deadline. If they wait that long then I think it's even less likely he's anything more than a rental and we get him next year without giving up assets.
Bird isn't GM anymore, he stepped down weeks ago. PG has made it clear these past two days that he WILL be leaving and to the Lakers. If they wait until the trade deadline we give them Deng and Mozgov. Right now, they would probably get a couple draft picks.
I think this is all true... last summer. This season? If I'm Indiana, I'm not about to go into the season with Paul George looming over the scene. I want him gone. I do agree that if all things are equal, the Pacers will send him somewhere else and right now on Monday June 19th I think the Laker offer is probably nothing. However, when the Pacers finish doing the rounds and find that nobody is willing to give up anything of value for George, they'll have to come back to the Lakers and ask for something. I'm sure there's some teams out there that will say "I'm willing to give up a protected pick for a rental", but with Paul George and his agent continuing to say "he's opting out and going to the Lakers no matter what", those offers are probably fading. So what would you rather have? One protected pick? Or Clarkson and the #28 pick? The Pacers absolutely are unlikely to want to send him to LA, but they are really running out of options. What team out there is thinking, "we're Paul George away from contention AND I'm willing to sacrifice a bit to get us Paul George for a one-year shot at toppling the Warriors". I don't see anybody out there willing to do that just to see the Lakers snatch him in a summer. Their options are dwindling quickly. The way I see it Cleveland was their one real shot and now with Griffin out of the picture, I don't know that they make a real push with all their FO in shambles especially with it looking likely LeBron has a foot out the door. So Cleveland throws everything at George so that he AND LeBron can walk to Los Angeles next summer? Yikes.
Do it Jerry. Convince Ballmer to bring David Griffin in to run FO over Doc and let Ryan stay where he has been a Laker his whole life.
