You may be right. He certainly has no great track record in the league. But, in Luke's system his per 36 numbers last year with us were around 14ppg / 5apg. He likes it here. He knows he is being hired as what is realistically the 3rd string PG and fifth guard in the rotation. He could revert to an earlier personal mean, but he could also develop into a solid deep bench player. Not to mention his best quality is that his last name is neither Rondo or Rose.

Totally agree with you Weezy, you have to think management did their due diligence with the available pool of pgs. If they thought that resigning Ennis was good for what they were looking for then I'm ok with that, maybe there is something they see we don't.

I'm fine with signing Ennis for the minimum. Yes, I'd still love to have a better vet backup PG but that might happen later, who knows?

I'm not into Ennis. Not that there's anything wrong with Ennis.

I think some folks forget that he was more productive for us last year than either Calderon or Heurtas.

I think this is the rub right here... We ran out of options. We made big runs at guys like Rondo and Rose and (against all odds honestly) almost got them. I'm not ecstatic about Ennis and I agree with Doc that I think we're going to lament seeing him too much. Hopefully Hart shows some great stuff and if Ennis struggles, we'll just have to slide Clarkson up and put Hart in there off the bench.

I'm just glad KCP became available and we prioritized starting SG over backup PG. That is I think the key here. We can be disappointed we didn't get a better player at backup PG, but hopefully we added a damn good starting one, and we got a better starting SG than we had, making our bench a little better in the process.

That's not what was being discussed. The list comment wasn't about who was/is available, it was about Ennis being the next Ariza/Whiteside finding their niche vs guys like Ennis that just flame out of the league after a couple years of bouncing around.

But to your point, I can still think Ennis sucks with no one else being available. I don't understand why that keeps getting brought up. I'm strictly talking about Ennis the player, I'm evaluating Ennis the player. Not comparing him to what we could of had.

There is not much left out on the market, I understand that. I also understand it's for the minimum. That has nothing to do with what I think of Ennis.

    Lonzo (32) / JC (16) / Ennis (0)
    KCP (32) / JC (10) / Hart or Brewer (6)

That's probably going to be the rotation so I'm not really worried about it unless we lose Lonzo and then we are screwed.

I wasn't aware you were only discussing Ennis in a vacuum, I assumed it was about signing him being a bad move because we could have done better. I'll take Ennis over Caruso as a backup for example. I don't see how the 2 arguments can really be separated. But that's fine, I didn't mean to jump into the middle of a separate discussion, I was truly asking who you would rather we signed, didn't realize you just meant to say Ennis sucks regardless ha ha. I'm not a big fan either, I just expected this all along.

clarkson has had some of his best times at backup pg, right? i think this slots him there, with ennis only playing in spots and when folks are injured.

i think the interesting part of this is that the lakers look like they'll at least keep clarkson up to december or the trade deadline. i thought there was a chance they might move him prior to the season. they need him now.

I admit it. Want to see Jordan for 1st half of season too. Since Magic Man's edicts have been put in place. How's he doing with improvements on his game and most importantly, considering his athleticism ..... DEFENSE. Bring it Jordy. Rather see you and pieces have to go with Deng than Randle. :Noddingyes:

That's my takeaway. Clarkson has become a bit less expendable in the short term at least.
