Wow, I was convinced Nick was beyond redemption. Then we had a little thing happen that's known in the business as a "coaching change". Suddenly Nick is a valuable contributor to a winning team.

Too bad what happened between Russ and Young, because these two have an amazing chemistry on the court. It still looks kind of awkward when they high-five each other, but... winning heals every wound.

Again, it is WAY early, but huge credit to our FO for not being hasty with this guy still on a friendly contract with his skillset and dumping him like I wanted. Maybe they tried and couldn't, I dunno, but it seems more like Luke saw something in him and has given him his confidence back. I don't expect him to stay this hot, but he went from untradeable to being consistently one of our best players on both ends as a starter, and that is shocking. He'll come back down to earth, he'll have games where he makes us rip our hair out for shooting too many bricks, but he is more than solid right now and playing above that 5 mil contract. Best of all he and Russ have chemistry on the court, and as long as he's not a distraction or bad influence that's all I can ask.

The commentators...the TNT hosts...still keep calling Young Swaggy P. He should send out memos he is now Uncle P or put his publicist on notice. That was an impressive coast to coast drive against three defenders at the cup.

Uncle P keeps delivering this season. He remains the best example of how different the team is now under new leadership.

Playing excellent perimeter defense, knocking down three's, bringing energy to this team, and really looks like Nick is just a perfect fit for this offense.

He should thank Luke every day for this opportunity. Right now, he's showing everyone what he can do when his head is in the right place.

Even though Nick is playing absolutely above all realistic expectations, I wouldn't want to resign him unless its on a reasonable one year contract.

It absolutely seems like he is motivated by his contract year. Giving him another multi-year contract will end up being a terrible deal.

I just hope he continues to play like he has. Then in the summer if he wants a one year deal for around 4-5 mio. or a two year deal worth around 8 million...I wouldn't go three years, no matter what.

Two years sounds reasonable, I agree.

Think it has more to due with playing in a real system that has helped Nick play at this high level more than a contract. If he keeps this up the Lakers absolutely should re-sign him.

You'd reward his exceptional individual and team play with an insulting and crappy new offer paying him far less with the newer CAP levels?

I was just thinking about how Nick Young and JR Smith have a similar skill set and checkered reputation.

JR Smith just got pizzaid, and I suppose in the right situation it's possible Nick could sniff some pretty good money too.

For now, I will be thankful for his contributions to the team. It was very unexpected, a tremendous help, and at a very reasonable price tag. Anytime you can turn a fan's opinion of your contract being a noose around the teams neck to a bargain basement deal, you are doing something right.

I'd definitely offer him two year, at a reasonable price, whatever that price may be next year... I mean, if he is way too expensive, we have to let him go - but if he plays like this, he's an important contributor for our team. Unlike, say, Deng. He's a great guy and all, but... he's not earning that money right now.

I see. You're not interested in keeping him on the team, just want to slap him around. A lot of that "useless" came from the absolutely sh***y coach we had, but whatever it's your approach with Nick and you're entitled, now that you've explained it.

Dayam .... I'm gassed and muscles burning just watching that. Great preparation. Am almost certain he felt he was going to have to make some other roster no idea what team or city outside his beloved L.A. But it sure prepared him well for the Lakers this year.

Early last night before the refs went full whistle mode, that one sequence where he held Wiggins away from going toward the basket and knocked the ball loose 3 times before he finally gave up and passed the rock elsewhere was pretty awesome.
