Is it weird that I have no desire to talk about Nick Young? I have no doubt he will score and be a valuable bench player for us if he's kept, but I'm over the guy after last season.

The only thing I can think of from that article that is actually true regarding "Kobe is tired of his antics" though, is that whole mess after beating the C Bags. Kobe was not amused at that nonsense, but that was forever ago, I really doubt he still cares going into next season.

Being optimistic, I think having Nick over the first 2/3 of the season is a great low risk opportunity for us. If he re-dedicates himself in the way Byron has asked of him for this year, we have a good productive wing talent at a moderate deal. If he doesn't, we wait until the trade deadline for a fringe contender to make an offer based on his offensive talent alone as a spark off their bench. Assuming we net the bare minimum value we can for him (Expiring deal, 2nd Rounder, etc.), at worst it's 6 mil more to use for next summer's FA class. These are the advantages we can obtain when we invest on talent, rather than giving 1 and 2 year rental contracts to old vets after we strike out on big name free agents.

Life long die hard Laker fan who has season tickets to the Wizards. I never liked the guy. Me first (or me only) player who plays basketball as a way to maintain what he really lives for. That's fine in for a lot of situations but for this team at this point I'd trade him before the season starts. I'm pretty sure we've tried and there were no takers so far. We may have to wait until someone gets injured.

Last time Nick was in "prove everyone wrong" mode, he signed here on the cheap for 1 year and had possibly his best season statistically and on defense. If we see a repeat of that I'll forgive him for celebrating the tank. That 1 act really made me dislike him.

Nick Young is a very nice person. But he is a clown by nature. Thats not going to work with Byron and Kobe, its just really that simple.

He doesn't appear as serious about his profession as some of his peers. I think he isn't a very good fit with Kobe and Byron.

I think so far they haven't had an issue...but thats mostly because they have barely played together. Kobe has been hurt almost all the time and in the short streak that he played, Young was hurt and not really in shape.

They have. Just having Kobe around keeps Nick more focused than we usually see him. Kobe actually likes Nick I think although I doubt Kobe would like him as much on a better team. Nick is fantastic at creating his own shot though and can be a microwave off the bench. Kobe knows that and he tries to foster it, but he also holds Nick to a higher standard defensively. Kobe is good for Nick.

Nick was almost meant as a sideshow while we rebuild, something entertaining while we try to get better. That doesn't mean he has to ONLY be a sideshow, but that's what the reality is. I'm hoping he comes through and gives us a good season. Despite his apparent air-headedness I like Nick.
