Meh..much ado about nothing. Some think Gasol is effective and just what we need. Some don't...there are two sides to every coin. Don't act like...Gasol is the best center we've had since..... or Gasol was clearly superior to Drummond...or Gasol was a key piece in our record before AD went down...hasn't been bandied about a lot around here. Some of us disagree with those sentiments. Yet there seems to be this mock outrage at saying so. Either way...no a 15 min role player isn't moving the needle much...that is correct. However..it is rather entertaining to see the amount of passion provoked, in discussions about such a player.

BUMP. So I’m going to assume Stein was wrong on whatever he thought he was going to break about the Lakers having a negative wrinkle in their big man plans. Would something like Marc not coming back or going to another team be announced instead this long after he stated he was coming back to the Lakers for the 2nd year of his contract but was done with international competition?

If DJ wants to come for vet min to solidify our old guys backup rotation of ex all stars to help keep our current all star “center” healthy and fresh for winning in the playoffs and the regular season …. why the eff not. Fouls to give, rim protection, a quicker footed and actually more defensive and offensive capable Dwight this year (judging from the incredible work and conditioning he’s putting in this summer), stretch shooting and playmaking … all are there now to be insurance against injuries, covid, any situation the opponent bigs present in any game and our guys’ ejections as WE rough other teams up. And this makes for good practices. Well done Rob. Plus still one spot available for contingency at the deadline if we don’t fill it.

Still curious to see what happens. I haven't seen any reports of Marc at the team facility working out or any workout videos for that matter. This might have legs

I mean, it's already September. Marc himself should have said something about it, one way or another. I will choose to interpret it like this: since he's not even addressing this, he's still on the team.

He has 3 options: Lakers, Europe, retire. No need to drag this one out, make your damn mind.

technically, he can be bought out and join the clippers (or anyone).

one detail that i'm not sure has been discussed here is that when marc signed, the idea was maybe that it was really a one-year deal for 5 million, not a two-year deal for 2.5 each (i.e., he never intended to play the 21-22 season for us for 2.5 million).

it's very hard for some to believe, but he was considered a big steal at the minimum (contrary to the "wasn't offered a contract" narrative). plenty of teams probably would have offered him more if they thought he'd have played there. so some speculated that we basically circumvented the cap in a way to get him here.

that's the only reason i think it has legs. what's weird to me is that we hadn't heard something in either direction already. i get that people are defaulting to the contractual agreement, but again, my sense is that this second year was guaranteed on paper but very much up in the air at the time of signing (and nothing that happened since should change that towards re-upping).

i really wonder if he plans on showing up to camp, seeing how things go, and then making a decision on whether to retire or go to europe. and i'm guessing management is in the loop on that if so.

Not being at the team facility doesn't bother me. All his extended family is in Europe and he's only got a short window to see them and old friends, kick back a bit. No videos also doesn't bother me, that doesn't seem to be the way he rolls.

Yeah. But, he could also feel he already said what he planned to do, so I'm going to assume the same thing.

Are you assuming he was lying or not serious when he said what he said? From his off season in Europe he's supposed to monitor and comment on rumors and speculation here? I'm of course just guessing too but seems like at this point we just take HIM at his word. Whether Rob would still have the option to trade him or not.

Maybe/ hopefully we'll get some clarity when DJ has his press conference.

I do find it odd, considering how last year went, there's been no clarity as the wildfire started to spread. It's a really quick and easy fix

    This is a great point.

One thing I would like to add. I don't think the Lakers will buy him out. The articles I've been reading have mentioned the Charlotte Hornets wanting him in a trade and the Lakers wanting to do the deal for salary cap relief. Add in the fact that I don't think they want to buy him out because of that and also because he could very well end up in the western conference with the Claps on a buyout

If he truly isn’t interested in returning, I still say the best thing to do is to trade him to Memphis for whatever minimum contract wing they have available. Desmond Bane would be a steal. Both contracts match.

hadn't heard the charlotte thing. would be weird, imo. can't imagine marc signing on for one more year on a non-contender in a non-glamour city on a vet min.

There's obviously a lot of rumors rolling around out there and I've read just about all of them I have come across. This sounds plausible but who the hell knows right?

There's more articles linking him to the Hornets as well

Mitch drafted him and finally wants to see Marc play for him (if they have a need)?

A lot of these websites just need something to write about during the off-season and they throw things at the wall to see what sticks. And if it doesn’t, they can just say it didn’t work because of A, B of C and make a second article.
