Really? So how are they looking against all the international young talent there?

After the game, Spain center Marc Gasol put to rest speculation that he might retire and said he would return to the Los Angeles Lakers next season, his last under contract. But he did indicate that he would retire from international play. His brother, likely future Hall of Famer Pau Gasol, might have played his final game in the loss. Neither Gasol brother scored in the game.

    Welp.

According to Marc Stein, Gasol is not a lock to return

That's a big f***ing wrinkle this late into free agency. We could be without a starting C. They won't have a huge role, but it's still a very important position with not much on the market. The 3 Bs are probably our best options--Baynes, Biyombo, and Boogie.

Not sure why Marc would leave unless he wants to go play with Pau overseas.

I'll take Boogie out of everyone available. I think he has a chip on his shoulder with the "I gotta prove I'm not hurt and can still play in this league" attitude. He's a bully inside and he can shoot from deep. He can add the same amount of minutes Marc was gonna play

Ah yes I remember reading something too.

I would prefer a more reliable guy than Boogie. We are already short in the position, so we really need someone we can rely for the whole season

Didn't Pau just announce after the Olympics his retirement from intl basketball, and is taking on some sort of board or advisory position?

Great, might have been nice of him to decide sooner. Cousins is probably the best available, can shoot the 3, need that with our starters.

Yeah I don’t get it, is Gasol having second thoughts about us, or is it the other way around?

Regardless, we gotta get that sorted out ASAP. When thinking about our depth chart, having Gasol there is a pretty big deal when it comes to our roster construction. I didn’t envision him playing major minutes or having a big role, but just having someone of his size/skillset/experience who can play maybe 10-15 minutes a game depending on the matchup is a nice bonus. If he’s gone, we absolutely need another big man (or two). Just AD and Dwight is obviously nowhere near enough depth for the center position.

I think he will be back, but if not - get Boogie. Problem solved.

Yeah, I think Gasol is still a positive defender in certain matchups whereas Boogie is mostly a liability. But as I mentioned, whoever is in their role is not going to play a very big role at all.

So what moreso is important to me about Gasol is his ability to space the floor and pass the ball. So although Boogie is a worse defender, he still slots in nicely for those specific skillsets.
