What’s ole Gorgui’s FA status and is he a vet min candidate or would take more to sign him? Not even familiar with his game aside from reading his suggested acquisition multiple times here. Which …. probably means I will now go hunting and bring back a youtube compilation.

OK yup. Unrestricted FA and here this Jan 2020 MN clip he looks great. Of course. But hit like 5 3s in this game.

in fairness, the several references were all made by me, the apparent president of the gorgui dieng fanclub.

look, he's not a star. but he can eat up 20 minutes credibly on both sides of the ball. this is all we need.

i don't see the appeal of dieng, everyone said he was going to be big pickup for spurs and they barely played him

He's not a guy that will move the needle for a non-playoff team like the Spurs, but if you're signing him as your 2nd/3rd C (including AD) on a team with multiple superstars, he can fill that gap.

i dont think we need 2 of the same slow footed Cs just cause they can shoot 3s...we need an athletic lob target now that we have russ when bron sits....would love to get howard back

i don't recall anyone saying he'd be big for the spurs. he's just a guy who can block a shot, make a shot and sort of be large for 20 minutes.

consistently a positive on both ends of the floor at every single stop during his 7-year career.

would have totally preferred him to drummond, especially if i had known we were planning to chuck chemistry in the toilet.

edit: i think he's of similar value to howard, maybe better at this point. howard is a minus on offense at this point, and despite everyone claiming he's the same guy from 10 years ago, he may be even less able to guard on the perimeter than dieng or even *gasp* gasol.

come playoff time, any minutes where AD isn't at center are stolen minutes anyway.

theres no Cs in this league that can guard the perimeter, unless of course AD decides to be a C full time

can't stress this enough: howard is not athletic anymore, guys. also, westbrook's acquisition makes having centers who can shoot or otherwise play offense even more important.

you were just complaining about slow feet. howard has slow feet.

Marc needs to start. His shooting, passing, and bball IQ is elite. Doesn't clog the paint for Westbrook and AD. Just what this team needs at the C position.

yep. and i think the backup center could be any number of things, tbh. i'd welcome howard back, too, but there are several potential options:

rolo, javale, biyombo, my man gorgui, theis, whitesdie, hernangomez, len, wcs (if he's cut)...feel like we can get one of these guys at the min. they know marc probably won't be the picture of health and durability, and we'll need them to play. good way to boost value for younger guys like hernangomez or len; good ring opportunity for rolo/biyombo/dieng types.

    edit: leaving my "whitesdie" typo.

I want Marc back on the team next year, and I hope he wants to come back rather than retire or request a move. I think he can still contribute in spurts and especially against certain teams. But I don't want him starting.

LeBron, AD and Russ had their big meeting to iron out their roles and AD declared his willingness to play more at the 5. So, AD NEEDS to be the permanent starter at the 5 from now on. Then play Marc in spots and one of either Dwight or Damian Jones or Nerlans Noel in other spots as AD's backups. Let LeBron, Melo and Markieff eat all the minutes at the 4.

He does, and Bron needs to move to the 4 permanently. The new SG and SF need to be able to shoot. LBJ needs to do some long distance shooting as well - he's not bad at it at all.

Don't "think" AD had starting in mind, probably just more minutes when needed even during the regular season. He's not built to handle the pounding all season with starter's minutes there. You know other teams will try to rough him up as much as possible with their biggest guys.

He doesn't need to play the "banger 5". When we need that against certain teams, we should use his backup. He should play the mobile, shooting center role. That's what he likes anyway. Make the whole starting 5 faster with Russ creating most of the time.

Haven't watched an Olympic game. How has Marc looked for Spain? Hell for old time's sake how's Pau doing? Are they typically in the lineup together or does Pau sub for Marc?
