    Implied? Yeah, maybe.

The young man needs to make the best decision for himself.

If he takes the money, I'm not one to criticize. He deserves it. He took a chance on himself and he had a good season.

    Good for him.

that was absolutely my read. if we offer the mini mle and he takes the full mle from someone else right off the bat, i'd say that maybe he wasn't being fully forthright in that interview. but if he takes over the mle? or if he turns us down to wait, we move on, and he takes less somewhere else, that all seemed perfectly possible given what he said.

The discussion on this has been floating back and forth between here and the stickied players thread, but for me Monk is the pick if everyone else at the bar went home already.

You cannot get better by running it back when you're a bad team. To improve requires new players who address weaknesses that got exposed for 82 games last year. Monk is small and Monk is not good on D. Those will not change. Monk plays in the backcourt where we have nearly every penny tied up that's not going to AD or Bron. Russ, THT, Nunn, AR, and Christie are all guards on the roster for now. If you don't move two of those three highest paid ones (Russ/THT/Nunn) and bring Monk back, that's a fireable offense. And I don't think you'll get an answer to whether those can be moved until after FA. Too many holes to continue to address something that is not a need. Monk is a topping, he's not a key ingredient and if we make the playoffs he's getting targeted.

Rob and Ham want wings who are taller and can play D and hit a 3. Monk can only check one of those boxes. You throw the full amount at Porter, hope he says yes and then target House or Jackson for the min. If Porter says no, which I don't think he will if Fischer's report today of his value is accurate (we trump any other tax payers MLE because of starting role + spotlight), then you shift to breaking up the mid level to 2-3 guys. If there's minimum competition for House, Jackson, and a big we like then we trump those offers by throwing a little over the min for them. To me that is more valuable. Fit and need over redundancies.

One 3&D guy won't solve it all for us but is a step and part of course correction. You can't add a second defender to the roster if you never sign the first.

disagree. if we let monk walk at a low price, what we get in FA is likely to be worse, and we'll be kicking ourselves.

again, maybe monk takes it out of our hands. but you're talking the martins and such. just not going to solve anything, either, and aren't as good.

and last year was the first year porter played both ends well since his injuries happened. and it was in basically the league's very best environment.

there are no real 3 and d guys available at the mini mle.

sac was one of the few teams i thought about that might exceed the mle for monk. mostly because they're just incredibly dumb, historically. like, reliably bad decision makers. but also because they don't have a player like him.

lol, mike brown with monk should be...interesting.

might mean sac's not eating salary for anyone, though, which seemed to be a rumor going around?

:dwightcrying:This one stings. He, AR and Stanley were the only enjoyable parts of last season for me. Good luck in Sactown. Well deserved.

yep. that's all i asked. we made the good faith offer, and he took what he thought was best for him (and probably was). he won't win any more there, but he already got the exposure we can afford folks, so he needed to capitalize.

as i'd said all week, he was the best we could do with the mini-mle, so i was hoping he'd stay. walker's a downgrade for sure.
