    Lin was making only 9 million for one season as opposed to almost 40 over 2. Huge difference there. I just don't buy the Pincus narrative. If all it took was one 1st rounder, a couple seconds, Zu and maybe the maximum allowed cash consideration, it'd be done already so that whoever got that pick could be scouting players expected to be in that range. Teams can make trades now (other than the 4 in the playoffs still).

    Why would it be done already? There's not much advantage for a team to take on salary before things start cooking. There's been no trades so far this year. Most teams have a full draft board anyway and it's entirely likely that any team even considering trading for Deng already has an idea of what they want at 25. Not to mention the trade could refer to a future 1st with protections higher up so it's possible to move up in the draft instead of settling at 25.

    Also you figure some teams atleast wanna move closer to draft day if anything to get a better grasp of what they want to try and execute, FA factored in. Not to mention seems what other offers are out there, etc.

    We can buy him out and stretch that figure then over 5. A buy out only makes sense if we can sign 2 max deals. Otherwise we should wait another year. He will be much easier to move as an expiring deal with a pick attached.

    given that there's only one max-worthy player left on the market and two teams who could even absorb deng's full contract, i think moving him this year is basically impossible and impractical.

    trade him for a one-year salary that is too big for the current team to stomach (melo). or wait until next year to move him. don't stretch. the stretch ONLY made sense if you knew you had two maxes in the bag, as cap space would be basically non-existent going forward anyway. even then, i didn't like it. you just don't want nearly 10% of your cap eaten up without any possible remedy.

    True no need to stretch or waive Dung, just keep doing what they have been doing, shaming Luold for existing

    It still makes sense to move him in the right deals.

    I think it's significant that Atlanta hasn't spent their cap space when teams like Dallas, Phoenix, and Brooklyn have.

    Deng for Melo. That's the last option. Otherwise, we have to hold on to him until next year.

    Teams with cap (assuming they waive all their non-guaranteed contracts, remaining free agent capholds and trade exceptions):

    Chicago = 20.5m (12 on the roster)
    Sac = 19.5m (13 on the roster)
    Atl = 12.5m (13 on the roster)

    I think Chicago is waiting out for all the RFA/qualifying offers to settle to see who they can snag up. Maybe one of them makes a run for Jabari Parker. Honestly I'd contact Atlanta, see if we can get a Deng/multiple picks for Faried. I like him as a small ball big or just an insurance policy for if something goes wrong with McGee/Zubac/Wagner.

    Deng will be dumped NEXT offseason. More teams will have cap space and the deal will be an expiring. There's really no hurry at this point.
