Those teams have been bad for how long? It's a culture now. It's different from the Lakers. It's why teams like Sacramento and Utah have talent, but can't win enough games. It's why the Clippers can't make it past the first round. It's why Detroit has struggled to regain relevant for the last 15 years. It's why Charlotte, Milwaukee, Denver, etc. are almost guaranteed to never reach the mountain top. They don't have the culture needed to understand how to get there. And how in the world do you know Okafor would have had issues if he had a strong role model around him? How do you know that? Are you friends with him? Maybe having a veteran who could pull his attention away from that is precisely what he needed. Almost all evidence points in that direction, but you keep thinking that 19 and 20 year olds with millions of newfound dollars are best left rudderless in a sea of expectations, drugs, women, crooks, and cheats.

I'm done trying to convince you of the obvious.

I think we are regarded as very different from those teams by many in the business.

what does that have to do with Deng? Based on real comments, its as if Orl, Phi,Minn are where they are because they dont have someone like Deng, well the records says otherwise....we're in the same place as those guys. This team wouldn't be any worse off without Dengs presence and if for whatever reason the young players don't develop a profession attitude and mentality to perfect their craft, it wouldn't be because we lack Dengs presence, said player was already destined to fail anyways, having Deng would only mitigate their behavior to a certain point.

I think it's just that we have built a different culture, and Deng is part of that. There's no one magic piece, but these moves - Walton, Deng, Mozgov, notably - are part of changing a culture of losers into professionals.

Can the poop be gold and encrusted with jewels to represent his other attributes of teaching our guys to be pros on and off the court?

I share your opinion. The idea that these two came to provide mentoring and leadership is really just an attempt by the Lakers' front office to better rationalize why they spent that much money on them. They came because no other team would offer a similar combination of money/role. The Lakers signed them because they simply couldn't get anyone better and felt pressure to do something this offseason and not have another offseason where they were rebuffed by marquee free agents and sat on cap space.

What did Danny try to mean when he said that? Sensitive racism in America aside. Why did he say African? He could have said black but he meant something else with the African part.

Should have traded him some weeks ago when he was on a hot streak.
