It's amazing how naturally gifted lonzo is considering he has such poor mechanical fundamentals. A few healthy summers where he can rework some stuff will do wonders. His idiot dad set him back big time. Imagine if he had a competent coach from day 1.
Wait till NBA players get a load of LaMelo's shot. It's centered but launches (appropriate term usually) from his "chin". Pops apparently didn't care how he shot either growing up ... just so he shot.
I agree that his dad may not have be a great coach for fundamentals but his dad gave him a lot of other valueable traits. You never see Zo really fazed, or emotional out there. He's like Lillard in the sense of having the same demeanor just about all the time. The way he plays wanting to always move the ball. I remember his dad saying that's how he wanted to always play the game watching Magic and the Lakers when Lonzo was little. Some bad and some good with his dad teaching him the game.
Yeah. I felt that he improved in many aspects of the game. I would like to see more in the area of “finishing”. And “shooting” is going to be an ongoing process with him.
Tonight his contributions DID show up in the stat sheet. 14 points, that monster dunk, 9 assists making the extra passes, excellent defense, great game.
I personally think this was Lonzos best game this season. He looked comfortable out there, was aggressive when he needed to, played great defense, and made the right plays.
This was definitely one of his best all-around games this season. Assists, points, and great defense.
The thing about Zo is -- no matter what, he plays smart individual and team D. Probably the most accomplished defender I've seen at the age of 21 since, Kobe I guess. He really doesn't have a lot of holes in his defensive instincts, IQ or effort.
I was really happy with him against the Spurs. A complete performance without ifs and buts. Can always be better I guess but this was one of his best games of the season. Solid D, clutch 3, overall hustle was great.
That dunk really opened the game up for him I think. Good game and we should see him run things more now with two of our ball handlers down and Lonzo’s confidence up after a string of good games
