Just insane that we have this guy to plug in when we have injuries. Still love his game...and he can still hit 3's and get to the rim at will. What a luxury. Love his attitude as well. He stayed ready and it showed
i actually feel really bad for him. felt like he's fulfilled his contract and more this year and will have to come out scrapping for a job at lower pay next year. had he joined a team less loaded at sg, depth-wise, he might have had a monk-like payday coming.
Lonnie should keep working on his game, and just be ready when his number is called. There is still a lot of ball left to be played, and I'm still not convinced yet, that Malik is a slam dunk, to be our starting SG next season.
His basketball IQ is just not up too the point where you can trust him. He's got ridiculous athletic ability which allows him to get height and balance on his jumpshots but he puts up some dumb shots and on defense stupid fouls.
yeah, i like lonnie, and he could put up huge numbers on a bottom-feeder, but his hoop iq isn't high. that said, i'll swear to this day that dwyane wade was a low-iq player, and in the right situations, he was really good.
Someone online pointed he's probably putting up some bad shots trying to get his next contract. Issue for him though is defense: coaching staff needs to work with him to come to an agreement that is good for both parties.
He looked bad to me. He hit some big shots in a stretch where we were trying to stay ahead of them while AD rested, but aside from that he plays with little control and just kinda makes stuff up. It’s apparent watching his play why we were a 2-10 team to start the season, he was a key player then, and the difference in the roster we have now from then that pushes him to 11th-13th man is wow. I’m not blaming Lonnie either, I’m just saying the roster being so bad that he was like our 4th best player is amazing, his style of play is not what I would consider conducive to winning basketball.
I like him a lot off the bench. He's that spark plug guy that the opponent forgets to account for. He can give you timely buckets in a versatile manner. I'd like to keep him if we can.
I think he's not as good as Monk, specially as a shooter. Haven't seen numbers but from the eye-test, Monk probably has more threes in a similar %. He needs to be amazing on offense to offset his defense and make him a plus on the court. Weezy post above is on-point. I think his fit in a contending roster is as 11th man, so probably he will make a career playing in the tier 3 being a +25mpg guy in a team not much interested in winning. Kinda like Ross's career Can we sign him with a vet min? We can't re-sign vet mins to the same contract, but I think the mini-mle we can. I'm giving the most of the mle to Schroder this year
monk's a much better three point shooter, lonnie's probably better at all other offensive skills. both are bad defenders. i agree with people that we're better now that he doesn't have to play much, but i think the evaluations are becoming overly harsh. i think there's a role for him in the league as a bench scorer. he had to improve a little on defense to be part of a winning team, though.
Monk is also a much better play maker and ballhandler in general. Walker always looks to force his own shot.
yeah, i forgot monk can play a little pick and roll. i wouldn't say he's a stronger ballhandler, though. again, not sure where the newfound distaste for lonnie came from. he happened to have his best stretches when we were terrible, but i don't think it was his fault we were terrible then.
I really don't like what he's doing out there: he's looking to score basically every time he gets the ball and the shots are pullups where he breaks the play to put up the shot. Gets lost on defense a lot as well. Instead of trying to get numbers for his next contract, his agent has to got to get in his ear and tell him to do what the team needs to win. He's got the skills to score within the offense
Happy for this kid. Been buried on the bench since we added DLo and comes in like he’s been playing regular rotation minutes.
