Really nice game, I'm glad his knees seem to be doing ok. I just wish he'd get his confidence in his jumper back though, he's passing up good shots for worse ones, or that lead to turnovers or the shot clock getting low on us. If you're open, shoot the ball.

Loved his energy tonight and the GREAT shooting (6 for 7!!). Like you said in the Randle thread, Weezy, I actually liked Julius and Larry in at the same time as well. 12 and 9? Wow, another near double double for him as well.

Agreed. It won't happen, but I'd like to see us start Nance and Randle together. It's our best lineup. We're quicker, faster, better spacing, better rebounding, and more free flowing. Hibbert is not giving us anything right now.

So what's your take on Nance at the 3 spot if he develops his shot in the offseason?

Becoming a 3 & D player will help his development by leaps and bounds.

don't know if this was directed at anyone in particular, but my opinion is he can't play the sf ever. even if he gets three point range, you want guys who can make plays off the dribble from behind the three point line at sf on offense. and on d, you have to be able to move your feet just a hair faster than he does. he's got to be a 4, maybe even a smallball 5 on occasion. he'll need to add just a bit of strength and improve his jumpshot to be effective in that role. at his peak, I could see a worse-scoring, better-defending david lee type.

when I first saw him early on, I thought maybe shawn marion lite, but he's not that kind of athlete in terms of lateral quickness or straight line speed.

Agreed. I'd love if he worked on his three point range and I'd love if he worked on his ability to put the ball on the floor, but he's not a SF. I wish he was a a SF so we could develop a lineup with he and Randle on the floor with a rim protector, but he's not a SF. If he could develop into a stretch 4/5 in today's NBA then I'd be down with that too. I think his best utility will be as a big off the bench behind Randle who can then be a Center eventually when we go small.

I'm not sure what to do with Nance for the future but the next coach will have to figure it out. Two or three years from now he will be too good not to be starting in some capacity. I'm on the Russell/Randle Express, when it gets a full head of steam you better either get on board or get out of the way. However, Nance is going to be a great player in his own right. A nice situation for the next coach to figure out.

If we get some defensive coaching in here, I feel like we have the PF position sewn up for the foreseeable future. Nance and Randle will develop together. Even if Nance becomes too good to be a 2nd unit guy, this is a good problem to have.

Lamar Odom was also too good to becoming off the bench and he did in the championship years. There is no reason Nance can't do the same for us.

I love Randle, but Nance makes trading him for another piece more realistic. If the price for a star is Randle and our pick (assuming we keep it), that makes us more attractive to Durant and others. Having Nance (not saying he's as good or going to be as good as Randle) makes him "expendable" in that we stiull have a quality young pf.

If we draft Ingram I hope we keep the pick and just start a rebuild. I think that makes more sense then trading some of them in a desperate attempt to get Durant which will likely backfire on us. Russell, Ingram, Randle, Nance, and Clarkson is a one heck of a young nucleus. I would just try and sign Whiteside. Sign a veteran like Dudley who can backup Ingram. Bring back Bazemore. Re-sign Bass. I'd trade to bring in Chalmers as a backup point. I know he tore his Achilles, but he's only 30 I believe and he's got some championship experience. Was playing well for Memphis before the injury. As a result he'd probably come cheap.

    Russell/Chalmers
    Bazemore/Clarkson
    Ingram/Dudley
    Randle/Nance Jr.
    Whiteside/Bass

Too much youth probably to be a playoff team next year, but in a couple of years I could see them making that kind of jump.

I'm down for this, but no love for you Byron for finally trying it out after the crap you have given us randomly with no plan at SF this whole season when Kobe's been out. Just no f****** rational plan. But hope you kick a** Larry. :Headbang:Would sure help in a number of ways if he's able to be just decent in the position, in addition to PF and maybe even the 5 depending on small ball match ups and increase Nancy's value to the team. We've seen nowhere near this guy's full potential yet.

Lakers News: Byron Scott Says Larry Nance Jr. May Start At Small Forward
    By Ryan Ward -

    03/20/2016

Throughout the 2015-16 NBA season, head coach Byron Scott has made a lot of tweaks and changes to the roster for the Los Angeles Lakers. Scott has received a considerable amount of criticism for the decisions he has made this season, but that hasn’t stopped him from continuing to try to figure things out.
As the team approaches the end of the season, it appears Scott is ready to shake things up yet again. The team will likely have a new starting forward in the near future.

According to the Lakers’ Twitter account, rookie Larry Nance Jr. could be the latest player on the squad to start at the small forward position:

Following Friday’s loss to the Phoenix Suns, the Lakers have only 13 games left in the regular season. Kobe Bryant’s status for the remaining 13 games remains uncertain even though he plans to play in as many as possible.

Bryant hasn’t played since the loss to the New York Knicks at the Staples Center on March 13. Kobe has been dealing with persistent soreness in his surgically repaired right shoulder which has resulted in the five-time NBA champion playing in only 53 games up to this point.

As for Nance, the rookie has played better than expected during his first season with the Lakers. Nance has done everything that has been asked of him and has become a fan favorite while also earning the respect of the coaching staff and his teammates.

Nance, much like Bryant, has played in 53 games this season. The Wyoming product is averaging 5.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting 53.8 percent from the floor. Nance’s numbers are slightly higher as a starter at 7.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 55.6 percent shooting in 22 games.

Even though I don't think Larry will be a SF it can't be any worse than having Artest start. He won't space the floor much better because he's not really a three point threat yet, but he will provide much needed energy and athleticism in that lineup with is sorely lacking. How about playing Tarik at center Byron? Would love to see a lineup of D-LO, JC, Julius, Larry, and Tarik. That's a crazy fast and athletic lineup.

I will take Nance Jr at SF over Metta, and especially over Kelly. You can't even say Kelly is at least a better shooter because I can't recall the last time I didn't see Kelly brick a three. If Nance would stop hesitating on his shots and just let them go with confidence again, I think he'd be fine there. Not fantastic or anything, but fine.

How about a little Larry Nance Jr. love? The guy played most of the game out of position with Randle/Bass or Randle/Hibbert inside and he worked his absolute tail off. I mean he was hustling all over the floor and gave us multiple offensive possessions. He finished last night with 4/5/2/1 stl/2 blks in just under 31 minutes.

    I love this kid.

Ditto! I think our PF position for the future is about as solid as one could ever ask for. Nance is already money from mid-range. If he or Randle is able to develop a reliable three point shot it's icing on the cake. These guys both have so much energy and drive and Nance just knows what to do and where to be on the court. Hustle and more hustle.

Man, if we could get Whiteside to play Center along with them and a three and D, SF, lookout.

Nance is a keeper [and a steal]... You can't put a price on his motor. Nance is just relentless. He, Clarkson and Randle have similar mindsets. Nance operating at the 3? He might not be a fit but considering who we had last year there I'd take my chances.
