Hate those people. Go to the games to be seen and don't know the difference between a dive or a high screen and roll. All of them show up at the annual Laker town meeting with torches and pitchforks. Their called season ticket holders I believe. That's fine...give up your slots and good luck getting them back once we go on another three to five year run.

btw, I'm thinking shelbourne has it right: of course it's not dead. things like this never are. it's just that Russell's not going to be a part of it if it goes down. the lakers will stay in contact until cousins is moved elsewhere or the lakers believe they have their frontcourt shored up. but they'll be angling to get him for a lot less than has been reported. again, we've seen this before with the pau deal, and with many others like it. of course sac is asking for the moon. when they wake up in February and are still the same dysfunctional bottom feeder, maybe they start asking for less, and ol' mitch will still be hanging around.

That's pretty much how I'm seeing it too.

Although I think a deal ends up being struck here with Denver some time next month probably.

Calipari coached Cousins at Kentucky for a season in 2009-10, and Ranadive believes Calipari could help serve as a mechanism to convince Cousins to back away from his desire to be traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, sources said. As much as anything, Calipari represents one more potential change of direction, as well as a public-relations splash for Ranadive.

Sacramento ownership, dismayed over Karl's fractured relationship with Cousins, has had lawyers studying Karl's contract, trying to determine if there's a way to terminate him for "cause," and free themselves of the three years, nearly $10 million left guaranteed on his deal, league sources told Yahoo Sports. If the Kings cannot convince Calipari to come to Sacramento – or never make a formal offer – Karl could simply remain as coach.

Oh yeah... I'm sure Kal is just jumping at the opportunity to coach the dysfunctional Kings instead of his powerhouse Kentucky school.

The guy turned away jobs like Cleveland with LeBron and Los Angeles with Kobe. I doubt he wants Sacramento just because Cousins is there.

D'Alessandro left the Kings for a front-office job with the Denver Nuggets two weeks ago. Around the draft, several front-office executives and player agents expressed frustration about dealing with Divac on instances involving the trading and drafting of players. Divac is largely unfamiliar with the collective bargaining and salary-cap rules, causing him to struggle with grasping the machinations of negotiating and completing deals.

Among other things, Ranadive has talked extensively with Calipari about how best to deal with Cousins, and communicated with him about the Kings' first-round pick, center Willie Cauley-Stein, in Thursday's NBA draft, sources said.

I don't understand. That implies that we were going to trade the pick if we didn't draft Russell, but since we had the second pick, we had a 99.9999% chance of drafting Russell.

I think it implies that we didn't know who we were getting in the draft, maybe it's NOT Russell.

And on top of that, once you have the kid on your team I'm thinking it's really hard to fall in love with his game and then trade him.

Judging by the FA plan, the FO probably put names in a hat and randomly pulled one out for the pick.

They don't know what they are doing anymore.
