No to all of it except Iggy. Kuz AND Green for Russ? Meh. Sign Melo? God no. Kuz is a better version of what Melo is at his age right now, and Green was huge for the Raptors last season, had like his best 3 point shooting year. Add in the disrespect of shipping out Green after he did the courtesy of waiting on us to go after Kawhi before committing anywhere so we could sign him. Yikes.
Courtesy? Green would have been screwed a bit if we got Kawhi. He lucked out that we had all that space left and he was left. Dlo, Bradley/KCP, Iggy, Lebron, AD Thats a pretty good closing 5 Not saying its perfect, but just looking at possibilities
green had a similar offer on the table from dallas, who waited until green had signed with us before moving on to other targets. trading green for iggy is actually a downgrade at this point in their careers, too.
But that would be the only friggin way...and in case you missed it in my initial post, allow me to explain. You need a minimum of 12.2m in outgoing salary to bring in Iggy. With Bron and AD obviously off the table, our 3rd largest salaried contract on the team is Green. We don’t need Green’s consent in a trade. Same goes for our 5th largest salary in AvBrad. Meanwhile, guys like Kcp (4th largest salary) and McGee (6th largest salary) have built in no-trade clauses due to the varying bird rights they built with us over the years. And let’s say we get both their consents for a trade, their combined salary is still not enough to salary match for Iggy. So the only possible 1 for 1 deal for Igg is Green. And the only possible 2 for 1 deal for Igg is Kcp (with his consent) and AvBrad. Any other configurations, will need more outgoing salary to get a deal done. And why the trade route? Cause shot like this: Iggy was his own agent when he structured his current contract with Myers to re-up with the dubs....and he took pride in that. If it’s up to him, he’s not going to sacrifice much of that bag in a buyout. And even if he does, a 1 for 1 with Iggy still needs to happen since we’re at capacity with 15 on the roster and someone needs to be moved to gain a roster spot for Iggy. So a 1 for 1 at the very least for Iggy is going to happen if y’all want the guy here. And sans a generous buyout, in terms of the least amount of assets outbound via trade (ie 1 for 1) with us being completely in control of the scenario (is not dealing with players’ no trade clauses) means Green is the most friggin’ likely to be dealt for Iggy.
i mean, unless green gets hurt, there's no reason to even consider it. iggy's only coming here via buyout.
And that’s the point. Iggy coming here isn’t as likely as some assume, unless dude gives back a generous portion of his salary in a buyout...and remember he can only recoup 1.75m of lost wages with us. Certainly a lot of obstacles to overcome if Iggy is to be had. Yeah I’m counting Boog and personally I don’t want to see dude waived. But you’re right, we can waive him without losing his 1.75m dpe and sign Iggy with it if/when they buyout occurs. But if it boils down to a trade for Iggy, we’re limited in what we really can offer and would we even want to offer a future pick for him at this point?
@ Vas. I get that Green for Iggy is the "only way". Just seems like a sideways to backwards move IMO. I see absolutely no reason the Lakers would do that trade.
Would never move Green for Iggy. Iggy has dropped off considerably and will see limited minutes at most. We need Green's 3 & D more than we need Iggy's veteran leadership. We have great leadership now with Lebron & Davis. We have some perimeter D with Green and Bradley, we have our 3 point shooters. Why mess it up? I'm with abeer3 on this, we are ONLY getting Iggy via a buyout. Don't really think he is coming here.
Anyone dumb enough to trade for Iggy and a $17 million contract at this point in his career deserves everything they get. Buyout prospect only.
And I totally get that. I’m just pointing out that trading for Iggy isn’t practical and neither is expecting him to walk away from a significant portion of his guaranteed contract that he himself negotiated with Myers. We need to look elsewhere cause I’m not sure Memphis would even favor a 1 for 1 for Green. They would probably want another weakly protected 1st or young project player too. So I hope folks are now open to other options as Kuz insurance/wing depth (see Melo).
eh, i think you're overestimating memphis's position and the trade market for iggy, but no, i don't think it's incredibly likely he's a laker this year. i wanted sefalosha as the iggy alternate, but apparently houston was thinking the same thing. i can't get on board with melo unless kuz's injury is really serious. i don't see the value in keeping cousins if we need another roster spot. it's not like we have extra rights to him should he miraculously recover next year. i suppose we could ink him to a two-year vet min if he looked great next summer, then have his full bird rights after that. but he'd be giving up a lot of scratch and we'd be giving up that roster flexibility for a guy who hasn't been able to stay on the floor for a while now.
Most recent news I could find with a quick search. WTH has he actually not had the MRI yet and is "waiting" another 10 days or so? Why would they wait? https://www.si.com/nba/2019/09/26/kyle-kuzma-out-indefinitely-left-foot-injury
I would think he’s already had an MRI for the initial injury. This one is probably to check progress ...or at least I hope so.
