This is absolutely exhausting. I haven't been this invested since the #10 for Bender and #17 talks in 2005.

 

Kawhi has an opportunity to join a super team in L.A. with the Lakers that barring injury likely wins multiple championships.

LeBron is still a top 3 player, AD is arguably top 5, and Kawhi of course is the best two player in basketball IMO.

I can’t remember any team having that much star power. Even the Warriors didn’t have that much firepower.

Kawhi has already won two championships as the best player and Finals MVP on two championship teams.

Just makes too much sense. I understand why Kawhi would want to return to Toronto because they obviously just won a championship, but realistically considering the moves the Sixers have made, and of course with Giannis still continuing to improve the Bucks aren’t going anywhere.

Even if Kawhi returns to the Raptors I don’t see that team repeating next season. They’re also an older team with Lowry, Gasol, and Ibaka all either at the back end of the primes or already outside of it.

Oh crap im nervous. Expect a decision before the afternoon to early afternoon. We arent going to have to wait much longer

 

When people were saying he was still in Toronto yesterday, I thought that meant 2 things:

Either he's staying there a couple more days until the 6th to save him a journey back to Canada so he can sign and have his presser and then leave

OR

He's staying there another day to finalize his decision so he can break it to the Raptors front office face-to-face that he's leaving (like Dwight Howard wanted to do with the Lakers).

The fact the plane's headed back to California today has me cautiously optimistic that it's second scenario. If he was signing with Toronto, why not just stay another day until the 6th and sign officially and get your presser done before leaving? Of course there is the possibility that they're just flying back because it's his uncle's birthday and they want to celebrate that with family in SoCal and will come back for any presser at a later date. But if that's the case, why stay in Toronto yesterday? If you're definitely going to fly back to SoCal on Friday for your uncle's birthday, why spend the 4th of July in Canada? Why not just fly back yesterday morning or even Wednesday night?

And it's all still guesswork. Dude had a home and possessions up in Canada. Even if he were to sign with L.A. today, he'd still probably go up to Canada a couple more times to close things out. I've tried to read the tea leaves on what his being up there now means and what it means if he is on a plane to San Diego and there are just too many variables.

Whatever he does, once he does it, then the rest of the dominoes fall and we finally know what kind of team we will bring to the court for the season, and THAT is exciting.

 

Agreed. At this point it would just be nice to know what the team will look like. Obviously Kawhi is the dream but a plan B with Danny Green, Marcus Morris and some buyout players like Iggy and Korver are a contender. Especially if we are creative with a pickup like Dragic.
