If anything, we'd be less desperate for Kawhi if we strike out....

Right now, we're more desperate for Kawhi in order to attract those FA's...my goodness Spurs are stupid af if that's what they think...

    or WOJ is an idiot

My favorite part was Woj's Freudian slip: "The Lakers have leverage.......... The Lakers don't have much leverage. They need to add a star, blah blah blah wishful thinking on Woj's part".

No way. If we strike out, that’s even less incentive to give up young pieces for Kawhi. Him alone wouldn’t be enough to make us championship contenders, so in that scenario we might as well just keep the max slot open to add him in 2019 without giving up anyone.

Now I hope it works the other way around. Lebron and George sign in LA with contracts that still give us flexibility to sign Kawhi in 2019 (maybe they take less, or they do 1+1 deals so that all 3 can split the 2019 cap space). Then at that point Kawhi doubles down on his demand to only sign with the Lakers in 2019 and Spurs are left with zero leverage.

Woj calling us desperate. Dude sold his soul to ESPN. Spurs pettiness level: off the scale

Yeah. Gotta agree. Striking out means we'd have a ton of cap space.....to offer him next summer. Honestly, I hope we don't trade for him. Dump Deng and resign Randle. We'll be able to move our kids next summer for Kawhi in a sign and trade or straight dumps. That way we can see if it's worth it to drain all our depth AND we can see if Kawhi's quad is actually OK.

I mean if we strike out, I'd still trade for him, but I wouldn't be desperate. I'd just have to beat the next best offer which is in further limited since these draft picks this year depreciate as soon as they are picked, Kawhi could be a one year rental for other teams and we would probably have to give up less since we aren't up against the wall.

But yea you've handled the Kawhi situation well all year, I'm sure you guys will handle it right.......

Shams on the Yahoo Show reiterated what Woj said:

    Quote:
”Spurs are just listening to offers but are not actively engaging teams. Lakers made contact with Spurs to gauge interest and saying ‘hey if there’s anything, we can be there for you guys in any way, just let us know’. I don’t expect the Spurs to go down that road with the Lakers. I think that’s a last resort.”

If we strike out, we have even more leverage. Pop's age is showing.

Spurs playing hardball as most expected.

I also think its kind of silly to think we will be more desperate. There's a good part of the fan base that's already reluctant to part with our young guys. I don't think the deal with get any sweeter if we whiff in free agency.

yeah, i think the strongest deal SA can get from us is right now, like in the next week. after that, i think assets get taken off the table one by one. now, we could end up holding the bag again (as we may be with george soon), but SA wants more assets, and we want to see if leonard is still leonard in real basketball games. and leonard wants to play in la (in theory). if we strike out, just make sure to hold one max slot for next year and wait it out.

Yeah, well, my goal is to lose 40-50 lbs, but that’s not going so smoothly either.

...just get there. Pulling for you.

On topic: Skeptic in me thinks it's ploy. Leonard ends up elsewhere or gets that SuperMax thing.
