Jalen's report would make sense if Kawhi stays in Toronto - he wouldn't have access to the same revenue streams as he would with the Lakers so he would want the financial security to come from his contract. Also, he trusts the training staff there and his own guys to keep him healthy enough to get the supermax. Next year there's no guarantee the Clippers or Lakers will have cap space, so he'd still be making a commitment to the Raptors organization.

I think we'll get players on one year deals and try this same "Kawhi s***" next year. Ugh...

We couldn’t get Kawhi next year outright if we wanted too. This literally is his only chance to get to the Lakers until Lebron is off the books.

(Unless he forces a sign and trade in which we have not much to offer)

Jalen has more credibility for not being one of the clowns saying Kawhi would take 1+1 deal in Toronto. 2 years makes more sense.

No chance in hell I’ll be able to fall in line with the “it’s okay, we have Lebron and AD” crowd. Our roster is barren and the free agent market is extremely dry. I definitely wouldn’t consider us the favorites for the title without Kawhi and just adding the few remaining free agents.

I feel like the Clippers would have cap space I don't think the Lakers would. Next year FA is also weak, so getting a second star to pair with Kawhi will be harder next year than it was this year.

honestly, just not the clippers is fine. we'll have our choice among the remaining FAs; some other star will ask to be traded here. we're in the driver's seat regardless. we've even been saved from mozdeng-ing it already.

I wouldn't put it past Kawhi to run it back with Toronto. A 1+1 would let him defend his title. Then it'd give him the option to go to the Lakers next year.

Don't think the Lakers would lock up their cap with whoever is remaining.

The only thing derailing Kawhi to LA in 2020 is if Lakers trade for a third star at the deadline. i.e. Bradley Beal.

he said he was dropping the mic, so i think he's pretty damn sure.

but it's just jalen rose. nobody else has said this. don't overreact to SAS or him.

we'd have to manage the cap very carefully to still have a max next year, but i think it's possible. but can you punt again with lebron declining? we'll see. i don't believe there isn't a backup plan.

Why not? They haven't jeopardized there space with the signings so far? The same players under control in 2020 are still Lebron, Kuzma, and AD (who will opt out, but we'd still have his bird rights).

Apparently Woj is going on ESPN soon to talk about Kawhi?
