Yeah I'm not sure how to take Carter's tweet. It could be that Kawhi's camp is telling him to say nothing is done to save face with the Clippers and Raptors who either just had a meeting or will still get a meeting. It could also mean the Lakers are far from a lock and Kawhi could easily go elsewhere. Who knows?

Might as well enjoy (loathe) the ride.

My gut feeling is telling me that the chance of us winning the title with Lebron + AD + Kuzma + quality role players is about 20-40%. I'm just throwing that number out there, but a lot of thing need to swing our way, like health, chemistry, playoff matchups, etc. We'd have no cap space, little flexibility and pretty much stuck with similar talent for the next 2-3 years, chipping away at Lebron's window.

With Kawhi on board, I see that number jumping to 80-90%. We'd only need a couple quality role players + ring chasers and we're game. We immediately become the favorites. Add a couple more players next year and the gap between us and the next best team widens even further.

I know a lot of folks don't want to hear it, but for me it's Kawhi or bust. AD alone isn't enough to completely offset the talent we lost in the trade AND the talent we lost over the past 2 years. Yes, that includes Dlo, Julius, Nance, Clarkson, etc. If we fill up the cap space with role players, we essentially traded away those players for similar, or maybe even worse talent. So in the grand scheme of things, only when we land Kawhi can I call this 2018/2019 plan a complete win.

Jerry West, Balmer, and Doc? Yeah, they surely could make an impression. This feels like deja vu... We are in the lead...then we are not...then we are...then some collusion and Laker-hating narratives pop up...then ESPN and others pile on about the Lakers being a mess...with Pop, Bird, Cuban, and others making calls and noise in the background...then someone (or some nephew of someone) in our FO makes a mistake...and then??????

Bron and AD (and maybe Kobe) need to close this. Nobody else can, I don't think. If not, I am prepared for "basketball reasons" to resurface (when Kobe was about to be joined with CP3 and Dwight, but collusion and hate happened instead).

Hmmm. Which recent FA target does this all sound like?

Counterpoint: Anthony Davis makes up for all their production and more.

Anthony Davis is, with no exaggeration, the most talented big man in the game today and is in the same conversation as Shaquille O'Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Not even kidding.

At this point, I think even without another star the Lakers have fantastic odds to win a title. The only issue would be our window being shorter than we'd like, something like 2-3 years instead of 5-7 years. LeBron James may be willing to take a backseat at this point in his career, but he's not done yet. The man was putting up 27/8/8 or something last year before the injury.

Yep from the beginning this was what Kawhi's camp said, Lakers first, Clippers then Raptors get the last pitch. As ever, nobody knows what Kawhi is thinking or where he is leaning. We've got to hold tight and see what he decides . . . when he decides.

this is gonna drag out until later this week. no surprise

no point in getting your hopes up or down because of what certain people post on twitter. just have to wait until an official decision is finally made because until then there will be people on twitter saying "clippers frontrunners" and then "lakers frontrunners" every 10 minutes

Anybody remember Doc River's bs about how the C Bags would've won had they had their full team with Kendrick Perkins, conveniently ignoring the fact that his C Bags only championship post Reagan was won with the Lakers missing Andrew Bynum and Trevor Ariza.

Another thing, could anyone ever imagine at the time that this ugly C bag/thunder with the permanent scowl would work on tv? smh

odds flow with how much money is coming in to make sure they don't lose money. Vegas has it all figured out, and isn't necessarily a reflection of reality.

But it is fascinating to watch regardless. With that much money at stake, you know someone there is plugged in as much as is humanly possible.

The new odds look like hedge bets to me. The Lakers moved up to reflect a possible Kawhi move, but at even odds those are still good for LeBron/AD combo. The Clippers and Raptors moved back a bit, but only far enough to get solid action on them for now. They're in the mix and would be probably similar to what they would be even if Kawhi signed for those teams. I don't think they're necessarily indicative of someone knowing where Kawhi is going unlike last season when LeBron was the -5000 or something to go the Lakers the day before it happened.

I don't like the wait either, but dude is making a decision worth 8 figures in money. I'd sure as hell take my time. I don't think he is trying to antagonize any team in particular.

Didn't he have a stress fracture or broken foot though in the playoffs?
