If Pelinka closes Kawhi to the Lakers, I’m willing to bet Steve Fisher is the person who was able to connect the Lakers front office with Kawhi’s inner circle. Pelinka was on Fisher’s Fab 5 teams at Michigan, and Kawhi was on Fisher’s SDSU Teams in 2009-2010 and 2010-2011. Nearly everyone on the Fab 5 coaching staff was on Fisher’s SDSU staff. I’m not just saying this as an SDSU Alum, btw. I’m also saying this because it’s no coincidence when the Paul George crap first surfaced in 2017, I was against it because I wanted the Lakers to pursue Kawhi this summer, and the Lakers make a halfassed offer for George, and then last summer when Kawhi started demanding a trade, he was insisting on the Lakers, and the Spurs refused to deal with us. This would also explain why the Lakers Basketball operations preferred Kawhi to Durant (see Ask Mr. Rambis’ thread) despite AEG preferring Durant. It would also explain why Magic, even after he quit, went on TV and said the Lakers were pursuing Kawhi Leonard this summer. The wheels were set in motion the moment Magic and Pelinka came on board, and I bet Pelinka had his sights on Kawhi from day 1, knowing he could leverage their mutual college coach as the broker.

I’m sure this was posted already, but seriously what is ESPN on? There’s no way the anchor is coming up with “but it you do that (sign Kawhi) how do you fill out the roster?!??” on her own, that’s a narrative being fed to her to say the same as Fox News and CNN pound their narratives into the ground. Then Marks goes on to list maybe the worst (opinions will vary) possible players we could sign, bottom of the barrel, worst case scenario, then it shifts to this isn’t like Miami because LeBron is old now. Then Marks moves on and says “this is the recommended way to go”. Recommended by who? 4 out of 5 NBA GMs not employed by the Lakers? In what universe is going willingly after 3rd tier guys like Beverly and Bogdanovic better than getting Kawhi Leonard? As a backup plan, yeah, I’d take that, but as plan A, GTFO here with that nonsense ESPN

Weakest move I have seen is a 2nd overall pick deciding to do wheelies on a motorcycle and crashing and ending his career.

Go back to recording porn with your girlfriend, slappy. Your opinions mean d***. Pun intended.

ESPN and FS1 have been pushing this nonsense of spreading the cap space between several middle class free agents who will surely get overpaid.

God I love seeing Kobe mentioned in here too. That is what we all should hope for in helping to convince him. Not only that but as great as Kawhi is Kobe can still make him better. Kobe was his personal tutor to give him the moves and the knowledge in "superstar college". Now it's time for graduate work. No one would say Kawhi is at the level of all aspects of the game "technically" yet that Kobe reached.

I have another theory. Not only is Pelinka a grinder and one tough mother bleeper to get done what he has in the position he was put in by Magic and with BSPN mocking him and mocking the Lakers but being as close friends as they are it would not surprise me in the least to find out there was a lot of support and input given to him by the Black Mamba.

Was watching First Take this morning and Max Kellerman thinks the Clippers have two max slots...

I didn't know they Pelinka'd Gallinari yet. Soooo yeah, no two max spots for them.

Not saying having Kawhi meet with tob and the Rambii would be better, but why on earth would you have Magic there after he lit you on fire a month ago?

Lakers made the moves in advance. All their chips are on the table.
Clipps would have to sell a hypothetical scenario.

Kawhi's family follows him on socials. Dude won 5 rings here...why yall care so much.

Not to mention he was not the greatest as PBO, but dude is killing it in the business sector and Uncle Dennis will be very interested in that.

Also if we fail, we can just blame it all on Magic again.

Because Magic's already been communicating with Uncle Dennis, who idolizes Magic.

Magic’s perfect role is this right here. Lebron/AD sell on the court, Magic sells off the court. Lakers meeting is going to trump anything any other team comes with. But Kawhi has to know what he wants already, just need to slam it home.

The way I’m reading this is that Kawhi’s camp will meet with Jeanie and Magic on Sunday when free agency starts? And then Kawhi himself will have a meeting with the whole organization later in the week?

Wording isn’t too clear, but if that is the case, it’s really good news (unless we hear that the camp is meeting with Balmer on Sunday too).

I really hope Kawhi pulls a Lebron. If this is where he wants to be, I don’t think he needs an extravagant presentation for that. I think deep down he already knows what he wants. So pull the trigger on your decision quickly, no matter what it is. If you want to go to the Lakers, you don’t need to put up the facade and meet with other teams over several days. Come to agreement ASAP so we can move on with filling out the rest of the roster (before players get signed elsewhere) so that we can put you in the best position to succeed.
