Oh, some free agents would go there. The only question is - which ones?

I am open to be happily surprised by the caliber unlike at the beginning of my fandom.

I’m sure that as soon as Pop retires the Spurs are done done. He is the Spurs, and he’s not going to coach forever. I don’t see the Spurs franchise being stronger than its coach like the Laker franchise is stronger than any coach. You can knock the Lakers down and they will get back up in time because they are the Lakers. As great as the Spurs are they have been that under Pop, and I don’t see them being ok just because they are the Spurs after he’s gone.

Spurs draft picks the last few years have been mostly bad to average.

This is the worst Free Agency News of the Summer. We just lost one of the best writers and story tellers in sports.

Damn shame we lost that and even worse he's going to the Paper Clips.

I have no idea what Lee brings as an executive, but he's an excellent writer.

Not because they are the Lakers. Because of brand recognition and media love.

Why cannot work without Pop? You did not exactly guarantee or say you are almost sure about your predictions.

Average is what you are gunning for when you already have franchise playuers on your team. Enough of them did what they had to do.

So it's fine for you to throw out your riddles and "Spurs are good" takes while claiming the 5th as far as Xs and Os, or any detailed talk of what you see in players with your eye tests but when people here give you solid reasons such as you just lost your franchise player, other key players are aging or already gone and Pop won't be around much longer .... you press them for even more information for their side of the argument as if their three times your conversational efforts are still not enough. See a pattern here?

But your first sentence in the 2nd part is beyond ridiculous. What team ever in any sport only wants to bring in "average" with a draft pick because you already have one or more superlative players?

Average is never what you're rooting for in sports. Ever.

Lee Jenkins is going to be a big hit in Seattle when Balmer finally accepts that theyll always be playing second fiddle in LA and move that team. :Magic2:

Nah .... the city is going to push through and fast track that new arena regardless of whatever they may have had in a contract with the Forum. If Leonard goes there maybe they are already compensating for him being a mute with zero charisma by bringing in the best sports writer in the business for propping up the media side of their franchise.

Lee would make it a hell of a story on their move to Seattle.

On point one, are you referring to the Lakers or Spurs? The media hates the Lakers, so I was confused. They love the Spurs because of the consistent brand of basketball they play, which again, is because of Pop, he’s the one constant. Sure he’s a grump for between quarter interviews, but who gives af?

On point two, I said “I’m sure”, that’s as strong as I will word it. I feel personally sure that as soon as Pop retires, the Spurs as we know them are done. They can come back in time because they are a well run franchise from the top too, but I liken it to the Patriots. They are done when Belichick leaves, and possibly before that if Brady falls off a cliff. The first step in that already happened with the Spurs, they lost their Brady in Kawhi and replaced him with a lesser version who absolutely vanishes in the playoffs. The Spurs are clinging on to an aging Pau and a very up and down Aldridge and that’s it. Of course they can still make the playoffs, but their standard for 2 decades has been titles, so that’s not the Spurs as we know them. So yes, I’m sure that when Pop leaves they are no longer the Spurs as we have known them. The Lakers lose stars, they replace them. They lose star coaches, they replace them, we always come back, this is the longest we’ve ever been down, and it’s over. You can cite “drama” as much as you want, but the Lakers landed the best player in the NBA. I don’t even like him, but that’s what he is, even if not by that wide a margin anymore. And then you get rumors of the 2nd best player in the NBA maybe being interested in us, which whether true or not, is the kind of thing you hear being a Lakers fan. The brand is strong.

Gulp...1st time Woj has reported that the cLips are now the fav to land Kawhi (must be from what Ramona fed him).

Still could be a leverage play, or just my outright denial of it, but Butler/Kawhi as a combo doesn't make much sense to me. Either way, Toronto can't be feeling good about this news now.

I don’t understand why people are saying a Butler/Kawhi combo doesn’t make sense... Butler is fully capable of playing shooting guard and Kawhi plays the SF position.

It makes more sense than Ingram playing SG and Kawhi at SF.
