I was one of the biggest supporters of Randle, and I still think he could become an all-star some day. Admittedly I was even on the "PG plus Randle is better than an aging Lebron" train, but once we signed Lebron, I knew Randle had to go. He just wasn't the right fit at the time and Mintz probably wasn't making things easier either. My only gripe is how poorly the Magic regime handled the situation. We ended up letting him walk for nothing.... not even a 2nd round pick for a 23 year-old RFA averaging 16/8. Looking back we could have included Randle (or an asset) instead of Ball/Hart/picks for the AD trade for example. It was just poor asset management. Randle obviously wasn't happy as he left and It left a sour taste in everyone's mouth, similarly to how Magic slighted Dlo and Zubac after he traded them.
i wasn't bullish on randle (still not), but i agree that the magic era really botched that one. again: said so at the time. as you said, all three of those players carried value that we didn't capitalize upon. just a total waste of those dark years. really frustrating, despite what's transpired since. i trust the current regime A LOT more.
I think we can still make it happen. Clippers get Lebron Knicks get Ibaka Lakers get PG and Randle Who says no?
yeah the 4th in defensive win shares popped off the page to me. i'll need to watch him some and see if he's figured out that basketball is still occurring when he or his man doesn't have the ball.
I'm really happy for him, but I'm not sure where he fits on a Championship squad. Can you get away with him being your second or even 3rd best player if he's playing PF for you? For all the praise he's getting, the Knicks are still a sub .500 team in the East.
Lakers drafted 3 all-stars in 2014, 2015 and 2016. If the Ballsack hype wasn't at an all time high, they would have drafted Jason Tatum. Russell Tatum Ingram Randle ? Happy to see Julius Randle do so well. Kinda curious how well this team would have done together.
they'd basically be the current C Bags. btw, i'm guessing no apologies from the press for calling all of them busts and depressing their value are forthcoming.
Julius was derided by Knicks analyst Clyde Frazier "not any good" when he played for the Lakers, I bet Frazier's foot taste as bad as his style
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/knicks-reportedly-not-trade-julius-200033889.html Did not know they were considering it?
He’s absolutely balling right now, the Knicks are 6th in the East at 22-22, he’s averaging 23/11/6. That team is such a thrown together group of weird pieces, I’m honestly shocked they’re even a .500 ball club.
I'm very happy fo him. Some people around here used to argue he's only effective due to a low playing time and couldn't do it otherwise. Great to see him prove the doubters wrong. They are not good enough and as @Weezy pointed out not constructed well, but I really hope the Knicks can build a good team with Randle being one of the key pieces in the near future. Great market, great history, it's been too long since they were relevant. BTW, when did they have the last good team? Late 90s with Houston, Sprewell and Ewing? The Rockets - Knicks finals were the first NBA games I have watched and got me into BB, I didn't understand a lot from what I was watching but it was still very entertaining.
